Articles Relating to Czech-Slovak Research

Hello!!

Another good meeting. Many thanks for all the goodies provided, we were well fed! The room was warm since we now know how the thermostat works!

You can now register for the CGSI 2007 Conference in Madison, Wisconsin by getting the form at http://www.cgsi.org

We are working on the 2008 CGSI Symposium in the Seattle Area. Cnydi from Cyndi's List is the keynote speaker, we are working on the hotel location and other speakers. We hoping that Leo Baca can speak on his DNA research and the emmigrant passenger books he has written.

Josef Ivaska is coming back to Seattle to perform at the 2007 Majales. See info in latest Czech/Slovak Tidbits and on our website under Culture!

Steve Soucek found family information in a Czech newspaper article, how lucky. He also shared info about Euro bakery in Auburn! He has sent us the information ;

Jo Herber reported on the April EGS meeting where "Dear Myrtle, Pat Richley" spoke on finding that elusive female ancestor. Jo is also waiting for the correct Denni Hlaslatel to come as an interlibrary loan. Czech and Slovak obituaries from around Chicago are in this newspaper. Jo also shared "The Handy to Austrian Genealogical Research" she purchased from the Morman church.

Tom Sernka proudly annouced he has finished his Cultural Anthropology class paper "Changing Czech Culture." Congratualtions Tom! We will be posting it on our website. Tom even brought kolachy to treat his class and some or us!!!! He shared that on June 18th the Seattle Symphony will be playing Janacek's music. Czech it out!

Diana Lapsa luckily received some family history research a relative sent. Janet Roach is still reeling from her sister's Google search of their family name which has come up with an ancestral village. Now she can use other resources! Bev Ryder has researched buying name badges for the symposium. Much appreciated. Collie Liska is now going to research his Grandmother's family. Martha Soletz has used the AOL search engine which gave her a FHL microfilm number for a village name. That is lucking out, too. Eric Taylor has attended the Jewish Genealogy Society meetings on Mercer Island. He shared Collen Fitzpatrick's book FORENSIC GENEALOGY with us . He is using it to ID old family pictures. Barb Callahan was realy impressed with NASE RODINA's article on Tatra Higlanders: The Gorale of Galicia and Slovak's Orava,Litov and Spis Counties.

Now I have to confess I am writing this on May 7 so I have forgottten some of the hghlights. I know we did great networking, tho!!!

NEXT MEETINGS: JUNE 23RD, 2007 AND JULY 18TH REGUALR TIME AND PLACE!!!! I had thoguht about a meeting on May 26th but have scrubbed that idea. It would be too much, am getting back from a trip two days before. I do have the room reserved in case someone else wants to faciltate a meeting, tho.

Enjoy the Majales! Jara Soldova and her Czech language students will be doing a great job helping Karol Osusky and Wayne Jeklik put on this spectacular event.

HAPPY RESEARCHING!!!!

Rosie
