Greetings!

In spite of the snow and rain we managed to have another great meeting with nineteen attending! Many thanks to Marjorie Bianco-Vernon for the kolacky, Jo Herber for the sugar cookies and Mara Pitkethly for the palmiers. Yum!!!

The two Czechoslovak exhibits at Starr Antique Mall in Snohomish will be shown thru April 12th. The next meeting is April 18th at a DIFFERENT TIME: 1 TO 4 PM. We are scheduled thru the year, find the dates on our website: https://sites.rootsweb.com/~wacsig/calendar.html Remember to email Norb Ziegler, our webmaster, with your ancestral names and places. Our members have been getting great hits off the internet from Google, ecetera.

A big welcome to Maria Vesely who is from Prague and has been in the states for 6 months. She will be doing translating and is giving Czech language lessons to people going to our ancestral lands. I met Maria at Cesky Stul, which is put on by the Czech language class instructor, Jara Soldanova.

WFLA Lodge #181 members had a short meeting after our group meeting. Marjorie Bianco-Vernon's ancestors came in 1810. Her husband Bob Vernon's relatives are not Czech or Slovak, but he is interested in the coal mining history. STEVE SOUCEK brought printouts of the website articles in the last TIDBITS about learning the Czech language and about the culture. He also told about Radio Prague. Google it!!! ROERT LUSSIER'S Slovak ancestors name is PALTSNER. BILL ZILA's Zizlavsky & Horensky folks came from Moravia: Liskovec/Korycany, Strilki, and Slavkov.

Welcome to Katerina Fedor-White. She has been in the states since 1970 arriving from Prague but being born in the Slovak Republic. She showed her grandmother's weaving for sharing. Katerina had many travel tips for us as she is a travel agent and does do a Czechoslovak ancestral trip in the fall.

COLLIE LISKA has had great success with the Steven Morse websites. It is not just the Ellis Island records, but other sites as well. The web addresses are in the last Tidbits. MIKE COOK and mom RUTH have had great success by putting the names being researched on various name boards. JO HERBER told how Googling her village she found great connections that ended up with common ancestral names. She showed her Czech village's (Bobnice) city crest that was accessed thru the internet. For culture show 'n tell, Jo had blown decorated Easter eggs, lovely cut glass vases, decorated wood items and a hand embroidered tablecloth. She bought some DVDs at the Madison Conference which she played for us.

MIKE MECHAM went to Victoria BC 's archives which are found in the basement of the Provincial Museum. He was successful in finding anglicized versions of his surname. He also has been in touch with the church his relatives attended in BC. Mike reminds us to use preferences when using Google. HARVEY KNIZEK is ready for the trip to his ancestral village in the Czech Republic. His researcher there is ready for him & wife Joan. They will be learning a smattering of the Czech language before going.

ALLAN & JULIE PESCHECK brought a small set of Czech dolls in folk costumes for show 'n tell. Allan is close to being a member of the Sons of American Revolution. MARA PITKETHLY reminds us of Cesky Stul that meets thru UW or send an email to the Czech Table Czech: C'esky' Stul.

MARTHA SOLTESZ had the information for New York City 1939-1943 pictures of addresses. It is complicated, I will have the handout at the next meeting. Or email me! Martha also commented on the popularity of Czech Mex music. (in Texas?) Still thinking about how names change, it depends which under country the Slovaks lived. AND as Martha pointed out, if there was a shortage of priests, priests from other countries came and changed spellings of names.

See you in April!!

HAPPY RESEARCHING!!

Rosie
