Opening: Welcome and tribute to Rosie Bodien by Norb Ziegler

Thirteen in attendance. Thanks to those who brought delicious baked goods to share.

--April 23 to July 17 Rosies boudoir glass will be on display at the Cedar Rapids Czech/Slovak Museum.

--Donations in her memory can be sent to Caring Bridge.

Meetings: --Set dates: 4/23; 6/11; 9/24; 11/12 (Thanksgiving Feast); --Venue: Remain at the fire station in Kirkland 9:30 am to 12:00pm for the April, June & September meetings; November meeting will be from 1-4 pm. a. Pick-up the key on Thursday or Friday at Kirkland City Hall before 5:00pm and return the key to the lock box at City Hall after the meeting. This will be done on a volunteer basis. b. If the volunteer cannot fulfill the task, call Norb Ziegler.

--Positions: a. Norb Ziegler will facilitate meetings through September. Jo Herber will take on the role of Group Chair beginning with the November meeting. b. Order of Business:

--Rosies books and materials a. Discussion of how to handle and dispose of all her books and materials b. Marjorie Bianco, who lives near Bodiens, will pick up books and materials. Marjorie and Bob Vernon volunteered to catalog everything c. Decision on the disposal of books and materials will be made at a later date after the cataloging is complete.

--Group memorial donation: Jo Herber a. Jo said that a representative of the National Czech Slovak Museum and Library proposed that our group support the catalog for the exhibit featuring Rosies Boudoir Glass Collection and her biography, with a goal of: $2000 for being listed as a sponsor b. Discussion on what the museum in Cedar Rapids is about. The website is www.ncsml.org. c. Several group members agreed that would be a fitting memorial to Rosie. Jo agreed to gather the donations and forward them to NCSML. It was felt that the $2000 goal would be attainable.

Topics for future meetings a. April: Rosies books b. September: Collie Liska's Slovak pottery collection c. November: Thanksgiving pot luck.

Other possible topics for future meetings - story telling, sharing family history books, history of human rights, speaker on C/S culture.

Sharing: Norb: Thanked people for stepping up. Helen Lowe: Visited four cousins in the Czech Republic; Learned more about her grandparents, at age four had scarlet fever; acknowledged Katherina Mahutova for all the help finding her relatives. Marilyn Beale: Told about her Slovak nephew who passed away at age 3. Michael Mecham: Spoke about Slovaks who emigrated from Pennsylvania to the coal mines in Fernie, B.C.; family got out of the mines and became hoteliers; old-timers still share stories about the company towns. Marjorie: discussed the name Klimt. Collie: Shared pictures from Pittsburg and the Midwest. Jo Herber: Familytreedna.com is effective; it helped her identify relatives in Slovakia. Carole: Her Slovak story is at the printer and will be distributed to family only; Roslyn cited here as a resource; Slovakia magazine mentioned. Norb: found possible Belcik relatives in the Boston area; cited Ancestry DNA. Bettelinn: Thanked all for the love and affection she has received from this group and expressed how much the group means to her; said her family came from Bohemia to Chicago, all had jobs, and were a loving affectionate family. Dick Volin: Cited Rosies expertise; retired from Boeing; discussed importance of the name Volin; family member came by boat in 1905 at age eighteen. Sandy Bartell: Wanted a speaker on Czech culture and a meeting on storytelling.

Further discussion: --My Heritage-DNA. --Shameful that Poland and the Czech Republic are taking poor care of books dating back to the 1600s --Hard to get information from these countries. There being no further business meeting was adjourned.
