Greetings!!

There were so many smilies and hugs at this meeting!!! It was so good to be back together after the hiatus!!! This is heart warming to me. Many thanks to you all!! NEXT MEETING DATE HAS BEEN CHANGED TO May 17th, 9:30 to Noon. I've been told it takes longer to rebound after the last chemo. Will save my strength for the April 13 event!!!

ANNOUNCEMENTS!

April 13, 20144, from 10:30 AM to Noon, there is a special Czechoslovak Bohemian Boudoir Viewing Event at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma. The whole museum will be open to our group and there will be NO ADMISSION CHARGED. Tentatively there will be coffee, tea, juice, and pastries provided. We are working on that!! At noon General admission starts. YOu are welcome to stay, whatever. At 11:30 I will give a short talk on the exhibit! I will send out another email about this asking people to let me know they are coming so we can plan numbers if there are refreshments.

Jitka Brejlova [email protected] and I have put together a CZECHOSLOVAK HERITAGE KIT. It can be borrowed if a student has a heritage day at school or a special person week at preschool. It consists of dolls in folk costume, maps, flags, laminated culture pictures, painted eggs, painted wooden items, a children's book to read and more. Plus, if the borrower then contacts the Northwest Puppet Center (206) 523-2579) in Seattle you can make arrangements for a Czech marionette presentation at your school. For a rental fee, you can also borrow an ethnic costume from us. Contact Jitka.

MEETING REPORT

A big welcome to new attendee DIANA BOETTGER who is researching STEHLIK and DVORAK and is going to he Czech Republic this summer with her daughter. We helped her with names of researchers in the CR. GLENN CRELLIN has been on our email list since the CGSI Symposium here in the Seattle area. So nice to meet Glenn. He is going to the CR this spring and is researching the names VAVRA, SILHANEK, CASLAVKA, & PARIZEK. PATTI BUCKLEY is researching the name PECINOVSKY. Patti and I have been in contact quite a while and it was so fun to meet her for the first time at the Bohemian Boudoir Exhibit at the Museum of Glass.

JO HERBER gave a report on the CGSI Conference in Chicago last October. Plus she told us about her exciting visit to the Bohemian Cemetery in Chicago with a guide. What a thrill to visit the graves of her ancestors. HELEN LOWE had pictures from the the Chicago conference to share. Then she shared a beautiful Czech (?) doll and a very heavy ornate Czechoslovakian liquor shaker. CAROL STEINHAUER has been getting using the US Citizenship & Immigration Services for research. MARILY BEALE announced that the St Joseph's (Slovak) Catholic Church in Tacoma is having an ethnic dinner on May 3rd. More info will follow on that!! KAE ELLINGSEN has relatives who are working with researcher Jan Dus in the CR but now has come up against a brick wall. JANET ROACH suggested Kae go to the National Archives class on brick walls. Jan recommends attending the Seattle Gen Society's DNA & Mac program classes. SANDY BARTEL is interested in finding information on the name HASAL to see if thee are any family crests associated with that name. NORB ZIEGLER added insight to some of our discussions.

KATARINA MUHUTOVA has been helping Helen Lowe with her research. Katarina has found an online cell phone service directory for the Czech Republic. See below! Wow,what a find! Thank you! AND VERY IMPORTANT SHE FOUND WHERE TO PURCHASE KRUSOVICE BEER!!

Rosie, Below is a link to the phone directory I referenced today. http://www.o2active.cz/telefonni-seznam.aspx

it is in Czech but easy to use, just write the surname you want to look-up to the first box that says CO: For Helen I looked up surname JOZA and JOZOVA and got over 30 addresses and phone numbers.

Additionally Bottleworks is a specialty beer store in Seattle, where they sell several Czech beers including Krusovice that was mentioned by Helen. Here is the phone number and the address,
