Cz/Slo Special Mtg Report for Feb. 6, 2010

Greetings!

Well, the "Luck of the Czechs" was with me. I was going to show the DVD on my computer screen, since the TV at the Fire Station could not be found. But, as I entered Saturday morning, a man who looked familiar was in the meeting room doing paper work for the CPR classes. As it turned out, I told him I remember him from subbing as a fifth grade teacher in his LK WA School District class. He offered us the use of the DVD projector the CPR classes used! So! All went very well. Thanks to my hubby Dan for manning the DVD projector.

Paula Hughart, Mara Pithkethly, and Marjorie Bianco-Vernon brought wonderful treats! We listened to part of Joan Mohr's "The Founding Fathers: The Czechoslovak Legion in Siberia, 1917 - 1920." After a break, we watched the DVD "The Accidental Army" made by the Czech Legion Project... in full size.. http://web.mac.com/czechlegion/TheCzechLegion/Introduction.html/ Wonderful networking ensued. Twenty -five of us gathered to share this together. New folks Rose & Joe Lenda, Audrey Erickson, John Dziak, and Professor Frank Danes and his wife Gulsimo joined us. I loved hearing Czech being spoken during the break! We had good food and camaraderie, what else did we need?

What we did get was a better understanding of the great influence the Czechoslovak Legion made on the new country of Czechoslovakia. What trials and tribualtions those men went through. I brought books about the Czechoslovak Legion, two albums, and a handout with information supplied by the Czech Legion Project. Bob Vernon made copies of a 1938 newspaper article that discussed the Czechoslovak Legion's influence.

If you have topics for another special meeting, let me know!!!

HAPPY RESEARCHING!

Rosie
