Greetings!

Next meeting is March 5, 2011, same place, same time! I will bring ALL of my Chicago research books. I'VE HAD TO CHANGE THE MEETING AFTER THAT TO APRIL 23, THEN CANCEL MAY 7TH.

Feb 12, at 1PM I am giving the "Czech it Out" presentation to the Seattle Genealogical Society. Come see this program if you have not seen it yet! SGS members are free, nonmembers pay $5. https://sites.rootsweb.com/~waseags/index.html

Helen Lowe brought kolache to share with us! Thank you, Helen!

New attendee JOYCE VODICKA is researching the names Misek, Vodicka, and Nesladek from Chicago.

Many thanks to LEE JAMES for coming from Olympia to give his Tomas Kohout Family presentation. This presentation was especially good for our new members. PLUS it t was quite motivating to us who have been doing a lot of research. The documents Lee showed helped put "meat on the bones" as we say when we want to know more about the ancestor's life. I was quite impressed that Lee's researcher, Olga Cerna from Trebon, found some interesting documents at the DISTRICT ARCHIVES for a reasonable fee. Lee went back 8 generations using the online records HIMSELF from the Trebon Archives. The presentation stimulated some interesting conversations about the history of the country, how folks adjusted to the new life here, and how US Census Records are vital to our research. Thanks to Lee's wife, Carolyn, for attending the meeting with Lee.

JO HERBER had a history timeline I will copy for the group members. MIKE MECHAM is reading "After the Reich" to better understand what happened after WWII. JERRY JANDACKA is busy researching Prague to find a relative. CAROL STEINHAUER brought a lovely hand woven cloth from the old country. Her grandmother came down the ST. Lawrence to Cleveland. HELEN LOWE shared a lovely Bohemian covered powder jar and two special family rings. LOUISE SIRCHIA brought an interesting book on Ellis island and a piece of Polish pottery to compare to Czech pottery.

MIKE COOK now is in charge of the Heritage Quest books that are for sale. He brought some books to show us. Here is Mike's email address: Mike Cook [email protected] I know some of you want to order the Slovak book by Lisa Also. Mike found information from Margie Sobotka's Nebraska book that states his people were Catholic. He was not sure of that before! I brought some mini Czechoslovakian perfume bottles to share.

Here is the Czech & Slovak American Genealogy Society of Illinois website that I promised to print! http://www.csagsi.org/

I also promised to send out the Czech and Slovak telephone number websites!
