My goodness gracious!! Wonderful meeting due to Ed Schultz bringing his computer/projector, the MANY folks who brought SUPER treats (they were applauded at the end of the meeting), and the great input from the attendees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We did not have the normal roundtable type format because we set up classroom style to view the screen. Ed put https://www.familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/Czech_Republic_Church_Books_from_the_Praha_Regional_Archive?cid=fb_grc_Czechoslovakia on the screen.

We followed those directions to get to the actual records wanted. We clicked on the Brno records. (You need to look up the terms for death, birth, and marriage in Czech) Next you need to click on the magnifying glass on the right hand side on the record line you want. That gets you to the actual records. YOu can magnify the words. We discussed these records.

Then NORB ZIEGLER walked us through getting to the Slovak records. He had Ed go to this webpage: https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/show#uri=http://www.familysearch.org/searchapi/search/collection/1554443 Then click on Browse through 1,316,135 images. Next page click on which religion you want. Then click on the county you want. Next the event. We then discussed the columns for Norb's ancestor's information. We all learned a lot!

JANIE REISWIG had questions for planning her first rip to the Czech Republic. She got great advice!

GERRI SOUCEK told us that the Who Do YOu Think YOu Are? series back is on NBC, channel 5, 8 PM on Friday nights.

MARTHA SOLTSZ had an interesting story. She wrote to a church in NY for a marriage record. They wrote back saying no such record. Then while going thru old papers she found that record!! The church had moved, so there are other records. The moral of the story is don't give up!!!

COLLIE LISKA is going to the CGSI Symposium in Salt Lake City March 16 and 17 and will have a report for us. .

Thank you to JO HERBER for her traveling advise and remembering to collect the one dollar from each attendee which helps with name tags, copies and mailings.

MARY ANN SOLTEZ and CAROL STEINHAUER had super travel tips, too. Welcome back to JO ANN PASEK who has recovered very well from knee replacement surgery. The CZECH FRATERNAL LODGE folks joined us for our meeting.

BOB VERNON is going to make a digital copy of an old Czechoslovakia map that included kroje (folk costumes) that Marjorie received from her family.

It was SO NEAT to have MARY TRIMMINGHAM, an original member form 11 years ago, join us. I know HELEN LOWE is all motivated to find records on the internet now along with others who attended.

GEORGE AND GERI KELNER are using the actupublica.cz website for their Moravian research. Geri had listed all the necessary records terms in columns for Latin, German, Czech and Slovak. Not all attendees had a chance to share this time, but twenty-eight of us were there. We ended early and people just sat around and talked!!

Ed suggested that we help with the indexing at the Family History Library via our own computers!!!! www.familysearch.org At the very very top click on indexing box.

NEXT MEETING: MARCH 17, 9:30 TO NOON --
