Articles Relating to Czech-Slovak Research

Greetings!

BIG thanks to the many folks who brought treats!!! Thanks again! We snacked well!!!

The hardy folks came on this cold wintery day!!! Welcome to GINNY & TOM HAD who are researching the names Had & Svihel in Mlyny, south of Prague. They needed help with finding the information on the relatives in Mlyny and backwards. And thank you ANTONIE ZAHN for visiting us again form Olympia where she is an exchange student from Prague. Antonie told us which classes she would be taking at the Gynmasium (Hight School) in Prague (15 classes) and then answered questions. Her dad Tom Zahn is arriving January 16 to spent 10 days here with Antonie. A big thank you to ALLAN & JULIE PESCHEK for bringing Antonie to the meeting, making a special trip to Olympia from Tacoma!!!

JO HERBER and SHARON EVANS came to get motivated and get back into their research. MARY ANN SOLTESZ brings her Mom MARTHA SOLTESZ to the meetings and enjoys the information gleamed from our discussions. Martha's husband was contacted via Facebook by a relative who spells the name differently. See, Facebook is a good genealogy tool! HELEN LOWE shared a lovely Czech doll she received for her birthday. These dolls have been made from the 1930's in Moravia. This doll was older and had been put away in a box for years!!!! GERRY LOVICEK had great observations of the many topics we discussed, RUZE GRESSER told us the story of why her grandmother, then later, her niece left their ancestral village in Moravia. BOB VERNON used online records to find the funny story he told us about his Vernon ancestor. MARJORIE BIANCO-VERNON is now hooked into collecting Czech pottery after going to the Czech Collectors Association Convention in Houston last June. MARA PITKETHLY reported that Cesky Stul has resumed featuring the UW Czech Language students speaking Czech with native speakers. Find more info on our website (https://sites.rootsweb.com/~wacsig/news.html) on the News & What's Happening page!

JOANNE PASEK has been finding political, historical and cultural information about our homelands. One of the articles is about the colorful Czech candidates running for the Czech presidency, Zeman and Schwarenberg. Another article is about the Dolnie Vestonice archaeological dig in Moravia that dates to year 26,000 BC. One of the very oldest found!!! I will pass these and more around around at the next meeting!!! Thank you, JoAnn!

Happy Researching,

Rosie
