-----------------------------------

It would appear that there were two early Saucier-Socia families in Clinton Co., N.Y., headed by men with similar but different names. The 1840 census of Plattsburgh shows:

Deophile Socia, 1840 census, Plattsburgh, N.Y. (village) and

Theodore Socia, 1840 census, Plattsburgh, N.Y. (town)

The first of these men apparently appears as:

Tuffield Socia, 1850 census, Champlain, Clinton Co.,

N.Y., age 46, b. Canada; Amilia, age 46; Matilda, age

15; Damarese, age 14.

There is a baptism on 4 February 1839, St. John the Baptist, Plattsburgh, N.Y., for Theofiel, son of Theofiel Saucie and Emelia Jane. Godparents: Tophiel Langtau and Bibian Beaulieu.

Theodore Socia, age 47, native of the Parish of St. Antoine, Canada, was naturalized, Declaration of Intention 21 April 1841, Oath of Allegiance 1 October 1844, Clinton Co., N.Y. Witness: Lewis Guibord.
