In Vermont, there was confusion as to this man's given and family name. b. c. 1802, Canada--d. 24 June 1858, South Hero, Vt., aged 56 years 5 months 16 days. m. Catherine/Jane/Clotilde Lapointe, b. c. 1816, Canada. 1850 census, South Hero, Vt. In the 1860 census, she is living with her parents. 1870 census with her son John. An affidavit in the pension file of John Troville, Sept. 12, 1877, indicates she was living in Winooski, Vt.

1.1 Sidney Cardinal, b. c. 1836, Canada.Probably identical with Celina Cardinal, b. c. 1838, Canada or South Hero, Vt. Baptism 12 September 1836, St-Luc, as Catherine-Celina Cardinal. As a minor, m. 5 November 1855, St. Joseph's, Burlington, Vt., Noe Martin (i.e. Martell), son of Bazile Martell/Martin and Celeste Larose/ Rocheleau of Grande-Ile.
