James Bruley is recorded as having married Harriet Surprise, b. c. 1820, Canada.

On 19 September 1854 at St. Joseph's Corbeau, Coopersville, Clinton Co., N.Y. is a rehabilitation of a marriage previously contracted of James Josime/ Gosine(sic), age 38, widower of Adelaide Camaraire, major son of Jean-Baptiste Josime/Gosine and Genevieve Lafreniere, to Henriette Sanssoucis, age 39, daughter of Luc Sanssoucis and Isabelle Lagrenade, of Rouses Point.

The name is Surprenant dit Sansoucy, which was frequently anglicized as Surprise. The maternal name is Planquier dit Lagrenade. The only possible logic for Gosine/Josime for Brule is that the priest confused "Onesime" as his family name.
