Last Will and Testament of Joseph Carnohan

In the name of God amen.  I Joseph Carnohan of the County of 
Spotsylvania being of sound mind and memory, but weak in body, do 
constitute make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner 
and form following to wit,

1st I will and desire the payment of all my just debts.

2nd  I will and desire that my beloved wife shall hold all my Estate of 
every kind or description whatsoever, to be given out to my children 
as she may see cause or think proper during the time of her being my 
widow but in case she should marry she is to have no more than the 
law directs and then an equal distribution to take place among all my 
children then living and in case of any be dead the representatives of 
them by blood to inherit.

3rd.  I desire that my son Willis may have the sum of ten Dollars to be 
applied to his education, also my sons Albert and William the sum of 
twenty Dollars each and my Daughters Sarah Ann and Melvina the 
sum of Fourteen Dollars each, to be applied to their education.

Lastly, I constitute and appoint my beloved wife Nancy Executrix to 
this my last will and testament.  My son Willis not an executor but to 
aid and assist her in the management of my concerns and family.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 21st day 
of July in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and 
twenty four.

At a Court held for Spotsylvania County the 7th day of November 
1825.
The last Will and Testament of Joseph Carnohan decd. was proved by 
the oath of Jonathan Durrett one of the witnesses thereto and is 
ordered to be recorded as a will of personal estate, and on the motion 
of Nancy Carnohan the executrix therein named who made oath 
thereto given together with Jonathan Gibson and Thomas Gibson her 
securities entered into and acknowledge a bond in the penalty of $200 
conditioned as the law directs certificate is granted her for obtaining a 
probate of said will in due form.
