SCOTT COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY

MEMBERSHIP IS WELCOME

 

The purpose of the Society is the promotion of historical studies, the preservation of cemeteries, historical sites, documents, manuscripts, photographs, and records, and for kindred interest concerning Scott County history, regional history, tourism, and history of Virginia and of America.

MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION

Membership in the Society is divided into three classes: Active members, Honorary members, and Student members.

Active Members – Any person of good character who is interested in the purpose of this Society is eligible for active membership and is deemed an active member upon payment of annual dues. Active members are eligible to hold office and to vote in all business meetings of the Society. The annual dues COVER THE PERIOD January 1 to December 31 of the year paid. Dues are set by voting members for the following year at the October quarterly meeting. The yearly membership dues are $20.00/person, with a maximum of $30.00/family for all cohabiting family members.

Honorary Members – Any person nominated by the Council and elected by the members may become an Honorary member. Nominations are considered based on distinguished service to the purpose for which the Society is organized, or in recognition of historically related scholarship, or for extraordinary contribution to historically related public affairs. Honorary members are not subject to annual dues.

Student Members – Any high school or post-high school student who is attending a school in Scott County, or, is a legal dependent of a Society member, or, is a legal dependent of a Scott County resident may be nominated and elected by the members. Student members are not subject to annual dues.

TO BECOME AN ACTIVE MEMBER

Attend a quarterly program/meeting (held on the third Saturday of January, April, July, and October) and pay applicable dues. Or, contact Ron Pendleton, Treasurer and coordinate payment of dues.
