Historical Sketches of Southwest Virginia

These materials have been made available by the courtesy of the Historical Society of Southwest Virginia and Rhonda Robertson. The Historical Society of Southwest Virginia was formed in 1960. The Historical Society publishes the bulletin: Historical Sketches of Southwest Virginia in March of each year and each volume contains between 80 and 150 pages. The By-Laws and Constution of the Society state that the articles published in Historical Sketches are not copyrighted and are free to be used and copied, in return the Society requests that credit be given to the author of the article and the Historical Society of Southwest Virginia. Dues to the Historical Society of Southwest Virginia are $7.00 per year for individual and $10.00 for a couple...dues include the yearly bulletin. Please send checks or money orders to: The Historical Society of Southwest Virginia, P. O. Box 3877, Wise, VA 24293.

Articles in Historical Sketches of Southwest Virginia focus on Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott and Wise Counties. Other areas of southwest Virginia, however, are frequently mentioned, and the resource should not be ruled out, if you are looking for information on other areas.
