Rockbridge Circuit Court

Rockbridge County was formed in 1778 from Augusta and Botetourt Counties.
This office houses records of all land transactions, probate and estate proceedings, court hearings/trials
and marriage licenses recorded and issued in Rockbridge County from 1778 to present. The City of Lexington
records are also located here.

Buena Vista Circuit Court
|
This Courthouse has marriages, births, deaths, deeds, tax records and other types of records.
Buena Vista became an independent city in 1893 and has maintained its own records since that date.

The VMI Archives
|
The Virginia Military Institute Archives and Special Collections Department, located in Preston Library, contains a wealth of 19th and 20th century collections of interest to both scholars and the general public. Holdings currently consist of more than 7,000 photographs; over 400 manuscript collections, among them the Papers of Stonewall Jackson and Matthew F. Maury; Civil War resources, including correspondence and diaries. |
The George C Marshall Museum

Organized in 1953 at the suggestion of President Truman, the George C. Marshall Foundation and its Board of Trustees, made up of distinguished citizens, share and promote the principles which made Marshall a great leader in his lifetime and a unique example of leadership to succeeding generations. Located in Lexington, Virginia, adjacent to the Virginia Military Institute -- Marshall's alma mater -- and the campus of Washington and Lee University, the Foundation draws its inspiration from the life and career of General Marshall, America's premier soldier-statesman. |
The Rockbridge Regional Library

The Headquarters library in Lexington serves as the central library
for the RRL system. The administrative offices are located here, including
the office of Mr. Alan Bobowski, Library Director. Acquisitions, cataloging,
and processing of library materials are performed for the entire system at
Headquarters. Professional reference staff provide information services at
Headquarters and take information referrals from the branch librarians.

The Rockbridge Historical Society
|
Rockbridge Historical Society is one of the oldest, largest, and
most active, county historical societies in Virginia. It was founded in 1939
by local citizens concerned about historic preservation and history
education. The archives for RHS are housed in Special Collections at Leyburn Library
on the Washington & Lee University Campus.

Town of Goshen

The Town of Goshen, located in Rockbridge County, VA, is 19
miles northwest of Lexington and 30 miles southwest of Staunton. State
Routes 42 and 39 intersect at a point in town where picturesque Mill Creek
meets the Calfpasture River, merging to form the Maury River. Centrally
located to Lexington, Staunton, Clifton Forge and Hot Springs.
Approximately 400 residents now call the Incorporated Limits of Goshen home. |
Stonewall Jackson House

It was originally the home of Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson and his
wife, Anna. It then became a hospital and is now part of the VMI museums. |
