John McCloud (died 1822) was the boatswain on USS Wasp during War of 1812, stationed at Gosport, married Mary Ballentine of Norfolk County. Their son, John Ballentine McCloud, was elected to Congress 1862 in special election, but could not take his seat due to Civil War; died while Chief Clerk, Gosport Navy Yard, Dec 1866. His son John Allen McCloud (1834-1911) was prominent grocer, along with his son John Alonza McCloud (my grandfather), who was postmaster of South Norfolk. There were once so many McCloud's in South Norfolk (1873) that it was called McCloudtown. McCloud's are buried in Magnolia Cemetary.
