SUPERINTENDENT LAMB ANNOUNCES IN THE ADVERTISING COLUMNS OF THE VIRGINIAN THIS MORNING THAT THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS OF THIS CITY WILL RE-OPEN ON FRIDAY SEPT 15TH AT 9AM.
PUPILS SEEKING ADMISSION FROM THE VAROUS WARDS WILL APPLY TO THE FOLLOWING PLACES:
THOSE LIVING IN THE FIRST WARD AT THE SCHOOL HOUSE ON THE CORNER OF FENCHURCH & HOLT STREETS TO MR. W.A. SIMMONS RECTOR:
THOSE IN THE 2ND WARD TO MR. JOHN J. MORRIS RECTOR,AT THE SCHOOL HOUSE ON BOUSH STREETS.
THOSE IN THE THIRD WARD TO MR. GEORGE W. SHEFFIELD RECTOR AT THE SCHOOL HOUSE ON THE CORNER OF CHARLOTTE AND BANK STREETS.
AND THOSE IN THE 4TH WARD TO THE RECTOR MR. A. SIMMONS AT THE SCHOOL HOUSE ON QUEEN STREET.
COLORED CHILDREN LIVING IN THE FIRST AND SECOND WARDS WILL APPLY TO THE TEACHERS OF THE SCHOOL FOR THE DISTRICT ON CHURCH STREET AND THOSE LIVING IN THE THIRD AND FOURTH WARDS TO THE TEACHERS AT THE SCHOOL HOUSE ON BUTE STREET.
NO PUPILS WILL BE ADMITED UNLESS THEY HAVE BEEN VACCINATED AND WITHIN THE AGES OF 5 AND 21.

THE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS - CAPT. JOHN T. WEST SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOR THE COUNTY ADVERTISES FOR 30 TEACHERS. The applicants will be required to stand an examination and in order to facilitate matters CAPTAIN WEST wishes those who desire situtations as teachers of white schools to meet him either on the 19th of this month (Tuesday) at the school house no. 4 PLEASANT GROVE TOWNSHIP TOWNSHIP near HICKORY GROUND AT 10AM or inthe room of the supervisors court house in PORTSMOUTH AT 10AM on the morning of the 22nd.
Applicants for the positions of teachers of colored schools are requested to meet him either on teh 20th instant at 10am at the above named school or the 23rd in the room of the supervisors. WE publish this as some have been under the impression that it will be necessary for them to attend at both places. it will be sufficient to attend at either and the aplicant can select the place most convenient.
Rev. Mr. Powell's School- This gentleman assisted by MISS MAGGIE DOWNING will open a select female school in PORTSMOUTH next WED 20TH. The school will be on the ground floor of the residence of MR. POWELL, in the macon house row and the course of instruction will be thorough and liberal. the terms are moderate and the well known abilities of the principal and his assitant bid fair to establish inour city a female seminary that will be a credit to it.
