Mulberry
Island Project
Tracts Bought
by Ft. Eustis, 1918 |
J. B. Ferguson & Co. were supervising engineers for
the Army Corps of Engineers for the record drawing of
property ownership on Mulberry Island when the Army
bought the acreage on March 18, 1918. The map was
drawn on March 6, 1919. Already the Balloon School
was in place. Full names are given when
available. Since it is imperative to have a map
from which to interpret and expand other history notes,
this map is dedicated and annotated to make references
to today's sites.
Mulberry Island and adjacent properties were purchased
by the Federal government for a total of $538,000 on
March 7, 1918 (an average of $65 an acre). Those
living here were given 30 days to clear off their
properties. Click on a thumbnail below to see a
full size picture. The map is split in thirds. |
