Acknowledgement
The Gloucester Genealogical Society of Virginia was constituted in
1996 and has sought to provide information about the county records
to the public for genealogical research. From its beginning, the
Society has endeavored to make this information available through
its journal, “The Family Tree Searcher.” The death records for
Gloucester County from 1865 - 1890 have been transcribed by members
of the Society, and portions of them have been published in the
journals. In May 2000, these records were publish as, "Death Records of Gloucester County, Virginia,
1865-1890." The book can be obtained by mail-order or viewed
online, as indicated below.

Additional Gloucester
death records, available on microfilm at the Library of Virginia in
Richmond, VA, include incomplete portions of death records 1853 -
1860. These data fragments were digitized for computer
distribution. The records give the names of slave owners and
distinguish between free and slave colored persons. Therefore,
abbreviations are defined to fit the data.
