REED - I am seeking any and all info on the ancestors of Andrew REED (c1795 - C1845) who lived and died in present-day Floyd Co., VA. He apparently married a woman by the name of Elizabeth (surname unknown) and his (male) children were Michael M. (c1831 - 1912), Fleming (c1836 - 1864); died of pneumonia in a civil war P.O.W. camp, John M. (c1839 - c1910), my direct ancestor, Andrew Michael REED (c1842 - ?). I do know that there's a record of him selling a portion of his 100-acre tract along the Beaver Creek area in 1837 and this makes me think that he is related to George REED, the "REED patriarch" in Floyd Co. however I do not think that he is directly related to him unless it is through George's son Michael (bc1760) on whom I can find no information at all, other than an 1810 VA Census record placing him in Rockbridge Co., VA. Any info on these ancestors of Andrew Reed (c1795 - c1845), or George REED's son Michael would be appreciated. P.S. The Andrew REED I am looking for is not Andrew A. Reed, the Floyd Co., minister (c1809 - c1880).

REED, CHAFIN - Looking for information on Amos REED and family. Amos REED is listed on the 1860 Floyd Co. VA census as being 29 years old. His wife, Milly CHAFIN REED is listed as 28. Their children included Siegler (age 6), Dillard G. (age 4) and Cahill (1 year.) This REED family is listed as neighbors to Humphrey E. REED (age 60) and Nanny (or Nancy) REED (age 53.) I am assuming that Amos was the son of Humphrey E. and Nanny REED. Other children listed as still living at home are Delilah (age 15), Humphrey (age 17) and 3 others whose names I can not make out: one 13 year old male, one 9 year old female and another younger female whose age I can't make out. Please e-mail if you have any other info on these REEDs or any ideas regarding the origin of the REED family in Floyd Co. VA.

CRAWFORD - Cary & Olive Jane CRAWFORD were listed on the 1860 Franklin Co VA census, in the "Southwest District". Cary joined Co B 42 VA at Floyd Court House VA, 15 Mar 1862. He died of typhoid fever, 7 Dec 1862, in Franklin Co VA. Where did he live and where is he buried? What happened to his widow, Olive Jane CRAWFORD? Cary's death record says his parents were John & Elizabeth CRAWFORD (probably of what was Botetourt Co VA in 1824). Can anyone place John & Elizabeth CRAWFORD?

I have been unsuccessful finding her in Montgomery County. Her family (parents, Layfayette and Luisia DUNCAN) was from Floyd County. Perhaps she is buried there? If anyone has access to newspaper microfilms from that era, I would be greatful if they would check either the Montgomery County area (Auburn District) or the Floyd County area (Alum Ridge) for an obituary. HARMON, REED, REID - Am trying to help find verification for a line of HARMONs which should have the name REID/REED. The story handed down is from the time period of a particular war, believed to be the Civil War but could have been further back to the Revolutionary War, etc. Apparently a young REID or REED man went to war and was to have married his betrothed upon his return. Unbeknownst to either of the young couple, she was already pregnant when he left. The REID/REED man was killed and therefore the baby boy took his mother's maiden name. Because the older family members who may have known specific names and dates are now deceased and only the story was handed down, we're left with last names and a probable county, that being Floyd Co., VA. If anyone has knowledge of this story or the family names mentioned, please reply by email. THANKS! Sherry B. Bell
