Floyd County, Virginia Census |
1890 Floyd County, Virginia Census Floyd County, Virginia, is nearly unique in that
the 1890 Census record for the county is one of the very few surviving census
records for that year for the entire country. Almost all the census for
the rest of the country, for that year, was destroyed by fire in 1921 (either
in the fire itself or later). There are several books in the Library of
Virginia (the state library) in Richmond listing this census for Floyd
County, Virginia (although the National Archives website does not list Floyd
County or Virginia as being a surviving record). See more info in Teri Pettit's A Note Concerning
the 1890 Census and "First in the Path of the Firemen"

very interesting and tragic story about the 1890 Federal Census (filled with
irony and mystery), visit the National Archives page at The Fate of the 1890
