Essex County Historical Society

The Essex County Historical Society meets once a year in October for the annual meeting and election of officers. Approximately three to four times a year the Society hosts workshops at historical sites. A lecture is presented by a guest speaker on the historic site or other topic of historical interest.

Annual dues for the Society are $15 for individuals and $25 for families. This would include any copies of the bulletin of the Society when published. Submissions of well researched and documented articles for the bulletin are welcomed. Contact Ted Rice, President of the Society, concerning submission of articles.

Essex County Museum

The Essex County Museum, a non-profit organization, was begun in late 1995 with three stated purposes:

Permenant displays are planned relating to the history of the county as well as changing displays relating to particular topics or periods of historical interest.

The Museum is located at 218 Water Lane (in the old post office area in the back of the Maddox-Dillard Building) and is open Friday, Saturday, and Monday from 10:00 Am to 3:00 PM; Sunday 1:00 PM to 3:PM.
