Notes for PATRICK DOYLE:
The Doyles are of Norse origins, and this fact is backed up by the fact that the name is most common in the south east of the country in counties Wicklow, Wexford and Carlow. The name comes from the Gaelic "Dubh", meaning ‘dark’, and "Gall", meaning ‘foreigner’, and was originally used to describe the invading vikings. The name is the twelfth most common name in Ireland.

John McGowan found Bronx, NY in 1920 US census with wife "Hilda" mother-in-law Alice Hirst, children John and Laurence and for John, Sr and John, Jr. it clearly states "Fall River" as place of birth. Which is then crossed out and Mass written in the spot. ??? about name Hilda and name Hirst as Bro. Robert indicates that mother's name s/b Mary C. Sullivan. Perhaps she is is second wife? and is the "May" of the 1930 census?

1920 census indicated that "Hilda Hirst" was born England and came to the US in 1889; naturalized in 1910. It would appear that she married John in 1915 at Fall River. John's occupation herein is as "INSPECTOR US, Agricultal Dept".

Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Edward Francis Higgins and Mary Veronica (McGowan) Higgins. He was formerly of the "Anthony House," in Portsmouth, R.I., where he lived from 1990 to February 1998, and formerly of 12 Second St., Portsmouth, where he lived from 1975-'90.
He worked as a steam fitter for the Steam Fitters Plumbing Local Union No. 77 of New Bedford for 45 years, retiring in 1979.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Portsmouth.
Survivors include three sons, James Edward Higgins of Fall River, Paul Christopher Higgins and David Charles Higgins, both of Portsmouth; two daughters, Patricia Louise Babcock of Fall River and Kathleen Louise Aubin of Portsmouth; a brother, (edited - living individual).; seven grandchildren; and a great grandchild.

I found Theresa Maloney based upon the information given by dad regarding the contact of a Lawyer regarding the estate of one John Maloney-Doyle. Dad had in his notes that of Easton Mass. Not realizing the connection, no further contact was made regarding this matter.

In the 1930 US Census there is cited one Theresa Maloney age 37 and her 11 year-old son John. Information regarding places of birth for mother match -- England which is where Anne Doyle was born. She indicates her marital status as single which matched the evidence that John was an illegitimate child.

Further digging and going back to the 1920 census I find Theresa and her son John living with the widowed father and her brother, James at 74 Tuttle Street, Fall River. Her employment is the same and her father works at labor yard at the cotton mill. The brother is unemployed and 31 years of age.
