    Oblast Volunteer Information     

 

OUR GOALS:

  • To maintain the quality we have come to expect of a WorldGenWeb Country site.

  • To attain a consistent interface for the convenience of UkraineWGW visitors.

The tools provided here should make the Oblast Host's job easier and less time consuming, as well as help us reach these goals.

There are a few basic requirements that every Oblast Host (existing or new) is expected to meet. We've tried to keep it simple. Every Oblast site must meet these requirements in order to be associated with the UkraineWorldGenWeb [UkraineWGW] Project and to be linked on the UkraineWGW Oblast table.

Should there be changes made in the basic guidelines/standards, you will be notified and this page will be updated.

Page evaluations: As new Oblast pages are linked to UkraineWGW, your pages will be checked for the required elements and to be sure links work. Oblast pages currently linked to UkraineWGW will be visited randomly checking for required elements. The Country Coordinator will let you know if there are any problems with links or any required elements are missing so any changes or corrections can be made.

Web Page Design: Begin by reviewing the UkraineWGW basic requirements listed below.  Good web page design attracts more visitors. Keep the design simple and don't overload the page with excess graphics. The easier it is to navigate, and the quicker it is to load, the more useful your web site becomes.

A useful site, which concentrates on good web page construction, is Cindy's Genealogy Home Page Construction Set. You will find a variety of useful information for both the novice and experienced user, including how to test your pages with different browsers to see how others might view your site.

Every Oblast page must have a pointer to the UkraineWGW Main WebPage maintained by the Country coordinator. (We would like you to add a note telling people that if they have an interest in adopting an Oblast they should contact the Country coordinator and provide the appropriate persons email address).
example:    If you would like to Adopt an Oblast in Ukraine, visit our Oblast listing on the main UkraineWGW page.

Required: Resource Page Every site should provide some basic research help for their Oblast. For instance, provide provided a list of addresses for the Oblast State Archives, a bibliography page showing the reference books available, Links/Info for genealogical and/or historical associations that focus on the area/Oblast. Lookups should be offered if you or your volunteers have received permission to do so from the book's author or publisher or the reference books you have available meet the appropriate copyright policies.

But I'm not really an expert on genealogy nor on this Ukraine Oblast, and I don't speak Ukrainian. Can I still do it?
YES!! Do not let this prevent you from trying. You may not be an expert, but you can not become one either if you don't practice it! There are plenty of people associated with this Ukrainian Genealogy site who know the language, so you may always ask them for help. And with the contact you will have with the people asking you questions about the Ukrainian Oblasts, you will learn more than you ever thought you might, and you might be surprised at how much you already know. You may be more of an expert than you think!
