ALSO the remains of the above named SAMUEL COOKE who departed this life the 28th day of Jany 1832 aged 42 Years. Wakeman Edwards COOKE, the son of Samuel COOKE (1789-1832) and Elizabeth EDWARDS (1792-1862), was baptised on 25 Oct 1825 in St Giles in the Wood. He was buried on 29 May 1827. Samuel COOKE, the son of George COOKE (1742-1821) and Elizabeth WALKEY (1755-1821), was baptised on 5 Jan 1789 in Atherington, Devon. He was buried on 3 Feb 1832. Elizabeth CHICHESTER, the daughter of William CHICHESTER (1722-1770) and Mary BALLYMAN (abt 1727-1760), was baptised on 16 Apr 1758 at Georgeham, Devon. Elizabeth was the granddaughter of Sir John CHICHESTER, 4th Baronet, of Youlston (1688-1740). She married William EDWARDS on 8 Feb 1786 at Barnstaple, Devon. Elizabeth was buried on 15 Oct 1834. Elizabeth EDWARDS, the daughter of William EDWARDS and Elizabeth CHICHESTER (1758-1834) was baptised on 26 Oct 1792 in Barnstaple, Devon. She married Samuel COOKE on 17 May 1823 in Northam, Devon. |

Six generations of the BLINSHAM family are commemorated on this gravestone located in the north aisle of the church. The BLINSHAM family lived in St Giles in the Wood from at least the mid-16th century until the death of Theophilus BLINSHAM in 1818. Richard BLINSHAM, the son of John BLINSHAM (? -1609) was baptised at St Giles in the Wood on 14 May 1570. Theophilus BLINSHAM, the son of Richard BLINSHAM (1570-1613) and Christian MATCOTT, was baptised at St Giles in the Wood on 30 Aug 1600. John BLINSHAM, the son of Theophilus BLINSHAM (1600-1679) and Mary (? -1680), was baptised at St Giles in the Wood on 27 May 1652. Roger BLINSHAM, the son of Henry BLINSHAM (1658-?) and Mary, and the nephew of John BLINSHAM (1652-1737) was baptised at St Giles in the Wood on 17 Jan 1690 and was buried on 6 Jan 1766. |

This Monument by the directions of the undermentioned ANNE ROLLE of Hudscott is erected in the memory of DENYS ROLLE of Stevenstone in this Parish, Esquire who died the 24th of June 1797 Aged 72 and ANNE, his wife daughter of ARTHUR CHICHESTER of Hall in this County, Esquire who died the 24th May 1781 Aged 64. ISABELLA HENRIETTA CHARLOTTA ROLLE their eldest daughter, died in the lifetime of her parents, Aged 16 ANNE ROLLE above mentioned, their second daughter, died the 16th of June 1842 Aged 87 CHRISTIANA PHILIPPA MARIA ROLLE the youngest daughter, died the 3rd of February 1831, Aged 72 Lucilla ROLLE died the 24th of July 1851 Aged 94 The Remains of the above, lie interred in the Family Vault in this Church. JOHN, BARON ROLLE, of Stevenstone son of the said DENYS and ANNE ROLLE, and the last male Descendant of the Family died without Issue the 3rd of April 1842, Aged 92, and was buried in the Family Vault in Bicton Church in the County. LOUISA LADY ROLLE, second wife of the above, died Nov 20th 1885, Aged 91, and was buried in Bicton Church Yard. |

He married Anne CHICHESTER on 22 May 1750 in East Down, Devon. Denys was buried on 1 Jul 1797. Anne CHICHESTER, the daughter of Arthur CHICHESTER (?-1737) and Dorothy ROW was baptised on 4 Oct 1722 in Bishops Tawton, Devon. She was buried at St Giles in the Wood on 29 May 1781, however, the burial entry in the parish register incorrectly identifies her as Anne, wife of Denys Rolle WALTER. Isabella Henrietta Charlotta ROLLE was baptised on 17 Jan 1754 in Chittlehampton, Devon. She was buried on 28 Jun 1770. Anne ROLLE was baptised on 1 May 1755 in East Tytherley, Hampshire. Christiana Philippa Maria ROLLE was buried on 10 Feb 1831. Lucilla ROLLE was baptised on 22 May 1757 in East Tytherley, Hampshire. John ROLLE was baptised on 6 Oct 1751 in Chittlehampton, Devon. He was elevated to the peerage, by letters patent, on 20 Jun 1796 as Baron Rolle of Stevenstone. He married Louisa TREFUSIS on 24 Sep 1822 in Huish, Devon. Lousia TREFUSIS was born on 29 Nov 1796, the daughter of Robert George William TREFUSIS, 16th Lord Clinton and Albertina Marianna GAULIS. | ||

Eleanor de Coplestone was the daughter of John de Coplestone of Colebroke, Devon and Katherine de Graas. She married John Pollard of Way Barton and died on 21 Sep 1430. Joanna Pollard was born about 1547 and died on 17 May 1610. Her father was George Pollard of Langley Barton, High Bickington. Joanna married William Risdon of Winscott and was the mother of Tristram Risdom, author of The Chorographical Description or Survey of the County of Devon. Mark George Kerr TREFUSIS was born on 13 Nov 1835 in Huish, Devon, the second son of Charles Rodolph TREFUSIS, 19th Lord (Baron) Clinton (1791-1866) and Lady Elizabeth Georgiana KERR (?-1871). In 1842 at the age of six, Mark TREFUSIS inherited the Rolle Estate from his aunt's husband, John, Baron ROLLE. Mark TREFUSIS was required to change his name to ROLLE (which he did by Royal License on 30 Jan 1852), and to live part of each year in the family manor houses, Stevenstone in the North and Bicton in the South. He died in Argelès, France, and is buried in Huish, Devon. | ||

Margaret FORD, the daughter of John FORD, was the wife of John ROLLE. Margaret was born about 1525 and died on 30 Jun 1592. Flanking her brass image are the kneeling figures of her daughters, Margerye and Honor, and her sons, Henry, Rychard, Valentyne, Alexander, George, Joachyme, Robert and John. John ROLLE, the son of George ROLLE (abt 1493-1552) and Eleanor DACRES, was born on 15 Dec 1518 in London, Middlesex. He died on 12 Aug 1570. His brass plate bears the arms of Rolle impaling Ford. |
