We are extracting birth records and preparing them for placement on these pages. These records will begin with the birth records found on an old physician's record book covering births from 1872 to 1900. However, this book does not contain records of all the births in Van Zandt County during this time period, only those recorded in this particular physician's record book. Birth records were not mandated to be filed officially until 1903 but the mandate was not complied with very often in Texas. Only approximately 20-30 percent of all births were recorded until around the 1940's. Individuals finding that their births had not been recorded usually filed "delayed" birth records which are not filed according to the date of birth but according to when the record was filed. The delayed birth records are not included on the Van Zandt County Birth Index nor the Texas State Birth Index. We will be adding to this page periodically so check back often.
