CUMMINS-HEARD CEMETERY
(aka Reagan Wells Cemetery)

Sue Halverson has graciously provided the information on this cemetery. She did note the following individuals had grave site reservations are now buried in the cemetery. They are: C D Heard, Clara Heard, Arvie Jones Heard buried there with husband John Heard, Frances Heard Nelson, daughter of John and Arvie Heard, Grace Nelson with husband Rev W J Nelson, Erna Comstock with Husband Cecil Comstock, Gracie and Aubrey Robinson, Sid Heard and wife Mary Steigerwald Heard, Emma Heard Nelson, Woodrow Heard, Cecil Dunlap and wife Bertha Heard Dunlap.

Sue also noted there are three Texas Rangers buried in this cemetery. They are her greatgrandfather, Lawrence Pike Heard, his nephew, Thomas D Heard and his stepson Thomas Harney Hammer. Their graves were recently marked with Official Texas Ranger Markers. There is a newspaper article about the Rangers and I will add it to the other information providing permission is granted by the newspaper.

How To Get There: Reagan Wells is reached by driving north from Uvalde on US Hwy 83 for 19.6 miles, then turning left onto FM 1051 immediately before the bridge across the Dry Frio River . Drive 7.7 miles, crossing the Dry Frio River five times on low water crossings to reach the village of Reagan Wells . The Heard Schoolhouse and Cemetery are about 3 miles further along Ranch Road 1051 from the Village of Reagan Wells . The Heard Schoolhouse and Cemetery are on the left side of the road right before going down a hill. If you cross the next crossing of the Dry Frio River you have gone too far. It is interesting to note that Reagan Wells is in a box canyon. You have to go out the same way you came in.
