Cyrus Truman Judd, wife Lorinda (Taylor) Judd I descend from their daughter Almina (Judd) Reader.
Cyrus Truman Judd, Jr. Cyrus Truman Judd Jr was born in Weybridge, Addison, VT in 1813. He was the son of Cyrus Truman Judd Sr. and Elizabeth Smith. He was a descendant of Deacon John Judd who migrated to CT in the mid 1600s from England. Truman’s family moved to Massena, Lawrence, NY where he graduated from the Potsdam Academy and became a teacher. While in New York he met and married Lorinda U. Taylor, daughter of Reuel Taylor and Alemina Wells. Lorinda was a descendant of the Hon. Eldad Taylor, a patriot of the Revolutionary war, and himself a descendant of the Hon. Mabel Harlakendon, wife of John Haynes, the Governor of MA and CT in the mid 1600s. He relocated with his family to Pecatonica, Winnebago, IL, where he taught school. He joined in the Gold Rush of 1849 and traveled to California. He engaged in mining, journalism, and constructing a portion of the levee in Sacramento, CA. After the discovery of gold at Pikes Peak he moved his family to Colorado. He built three sawmills and engaged in the lumber trade until the death of his wife. He disposed of all his holdings in CO and moved to the Lone Star State where he edited and published the Fort Worth Tribune. In the early 1880s he joined his son Frank, and his brother Stoel, in Bakersfield, CA and started a business as an alfalfa broker and acquiring real estate. He passed away in 1885. He was something of a rolling stone, but had a brilliant mind. No matter where he went he became involved in lucrative businesses and acquired extensive property.

Ventuleth (As a side note. – The family has over 50 letters written by this man, covering a span from the 1840s until the year he died. He was a descriptive and prolific writer.) |
