Search Ended for Lost San Saba Mine

J. T. Morgan, 79, West Texas pioneer, died in Arlington, Texas. He was born in Alabama and moved to Texas in 1866, settling in Comanche County. He was a ranger and a scout in numerous encounters with hostile Indians. Survivors include sons P. M., Donier, Ralph and Warner Morgan of Dallas and J. E. and T. O. Morgan of Grand Prairie. His wife preceded him in death a year ago.

Morgan never realized his ambition to develop two lost Spanish mines near San Saba. Last September, he said that he had discovered the mines, (which, according to legend, contain much gold, silver and other minerals) after a 60-year search. An old sheep herder had told him where the mines were located, and last year, while digging in a canyon in a "West Texas county," he said he had found two abandoned mines. Because of failing eyesight, he needed some assistance from a younger miner to help him complete his search, but was stricken with paralysis a month ago. [Perhaps it was just a dream - but obviously very real to him.]
