|
|
Guidelines
|
The purpose of this mailing list to to provide a forum for discussion
of genealogy and history in the Tarrant County area. You are invited to subscribe
to the list, and post questions and comments about your ancestors who lived
in the area or about research in this area. If you have access to any county
resources, you are encouraged to help those who are seeking help. It is hoped
that this list will be of value to its subscribers in the enrichment of their
knowledge of their ancestors and how they lived. |
|
Access to the mailing list is restricted. Only subscribers to the
Tarrant County Mailing List receive the messages and only the subscribers
may post them. If you are not currently a subscriber, you are invited to
join. The subscription is free and you are under no obligation to participate
in discussion or to remain on the mailing list. Currently, traffic on the
list is very light, one or two messages per week. |
||
Queries may be posted in the Mailing List, however, you will also
want to post them on the Message Board where they
remain online and are available to the entire world and are searchable.
|
||
The Golden Rule: "Do for others what you would like them to do for you." Absolutely no flames or nastiness will be tolerated. Do not attach long files or GEDCOMS to the list. They make people's ISPs go nuts and are not appreciated. Only GENEALOGY or HISTORY related posts are acceptable. These posts should have some reasonable connection to Tarrant Co., Texas and/or its immediate neighbors. Please do not quote an entire message. If you want to quote, cut and paste the relevant portion. Please bookmark this page, and save the Welcome Message that you receive by e-mail after you subscribe. Please sign your name when sending messages to the list. Announcements of meetings and seminars in Tarrant County and it's neighboring communities are accepted and encouraged. Discussion of and suggestions for this website are also welcome topics. Do not post advertisements for commercial products or services. Those who violate these rules will be placed on a committee. Serious violators may be banned from participation.

Netiquette on the
Mailing List This mailing list can be of great help to you in your research, but misunderstanding the functions and communication styles of this group can irritate many people. Contributing items to this discussion group is is a form of electronic publication: within a few hours of submission, your item will have been distributed to over 300 TXTARRAN subscribers and stored in Rootsweb's archives. Please Do: Read contributions for a while before trying to compose and send your own. Identify yourself in your messages. Some messages come through with only an email address. If you must remain anonymous, you do not belong in this group. If you wish to respond to a posted item, it is often more appropriate to e-mail your response directly to the poster. If you think your response will be of interest to many others, then send it to the group. If someone offers to do look-ups, it is probably best to e-mail the volunteer directly. If you wish to thank someone for what they have done, use direct e-mail. If you want to thank the group for the response you have received, then by all means, use the list to do so. Use the subject line to describe your topic briefly and accurately. Many people depend on this to determine whether or not to read an item. Ask yourself if your message is on topic. The topic is Tarrant County genealogy. There are lists for other topics. Do not quote the entire message when replying to other posts. Use only enough of the original message so that the readers understand what you refer to. We all have seen the original. Use upper and lower case characters when you type and place SURNAMES in caps so that they stand out. TYPING EVERYTHING IN ALL CAPS IS CONSIDERED TO BE A FORM OF SHOUTING ON THE INTERNET.
If someone posts something that upsets you, it is always best not to reply.
Contact Rob Yoder if you think that someone
is abusing this mailing list. I would prefer that matters like this be handled
privately. If anyone gets involved with a battle on the list, all partys
involved will be suspended from participation. |

Posting From Multiple Accounts If you have several e-mail accounts, you may arrange to be able to post messages from any of them, yet continue to receive messages in only one account. To do this, send me a request and I will post your additional e-mail addresses to the "Accept List." You need only to subscribe once.

Instructions for
Subscribing and
Unsubscribing There are two methods to receive mail when subscribed to the mailing list, Mail Mode and Digest Mode. Both modes receive all messages posted to the mailing list. In Mail Mode, you will receive every posting made to the mailing list as separate e-mail. In Digest Mode, several postings are combined and sent to you together as a single large e-mail message. If you don't know which to choose, I suggest Mail Mode. You may always change to Digest Mode at a later date if you so choose. How to change to Digest Mode. There are two simple steps. First, unsubscribe from Mail Mode. Second, subscribe to Digest Mode. There is not a formal NoMail mode. However you may follow the directions below to unsubscribe when you want the messages to stop, and then re-subscribe when you want them to start again.
