Asbury, Joe G. |
Graveside rites
for Joe G. Asbury, 48, were held Wednesday afternoon at Rose
Hill Cemetery. Rev. W. Neil Record, pastor, of the First Baptist
Church, Tuha, was in charge. Burial was under the direction of
Wallace Funeral Home. Mr. Ashburn, son
of the late Mr. and Mrs. R C. Asbury, died early Monday morning
in his home in Denver, CO following a long illness. Funeral
services were conducted in Denver Tuesday morning. Born in Rosebud, Mr. Asbury moved to Tulia
with his parents at an early age. All his public schooling was
received in Tuha. At one time he served ad Tulia City Manager. Survivors include
his widow, MRS. LOUISE ASBURY, and a sister Mrs. Frank Cave of
Plainview. Pallbearers were Horace Lindley, W. H.
Ward, Walter Tomlinson, Royall Cantrell, Wallace Hutchison and

Atkinson, Sarah Louise Morris |
Funeral
services for Mrs. W. M. Atkinson were conducted Monday
afternoon at the First Baptist Church, Rev. W. Neil Record,
pastor, officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery under
direction of Wallace Funeral Home. Mrs. Atkinson
died Friday night in a Plainview convalescent home where she
was taken about 10 days ago. Sarah Louise
Morris was born November 29, 1868 in Tennessee. She was the
daughter of James Pat and Sarah Morris. She was married to
W. M. ATKINSON in 1899 in Coryell County, Texas. They were the parents
of one daughter, Winnie Mae, who died August 20, 1950. The
family moved to the plains in 1907. Survivors include several
nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Kirk Garrett, Ewell Grigg, Allan Heard, Jim
Hale, C. L. Franks and John Ballenger. The Tulia

Bauer, J. J. |
J. J. Bauer, 84 year old pioneer Randall County farmer until
his retirement several years ago, was buried Friday in the
Happy Cemetery following funeral services at the Happy
Methodist Church. Rev. Martin Hartenberger, pastor of
Trinity Lutheran Church, Amarillo, where Mr. Bauer held
membership, conducted the services. Survivors include
five sons, C. W. Bauer, Canyon; F. H. Bauer, Lubbock; E. J.
And Clarence Bauer, Tuha; and I. L. Bauer, Happy; and five
daughters, Mrs. L. .F. Spiser, Amarillo; Mrs. Hugo Fehr,
Bushong, KS; Mrs. Lewis Harvey and Mrs. E. B. Harvey, both
of Canyon and Mrs. Ralph Bratcher, Dallas. Other
survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Gebhard and Mrs.
Louisa Harkendorff, both of Falls City, NE; two brothers,
Henry Bauer, Falls City and Herman Bauer, Verodn, NE; 33
grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Mr. Bauer
was born August 6, 1866 in Richardson County, NE. He
died‑April 4 at his home in Canyon following a long illness.
He was a former Randall County Commissioner.
Pallbearers were Frank Walters,
F. M. Brazil, H. R. Stone, Melvin Miller, Henry Ratjen and Bud

Bivens, Myrtle |
Funeral services are scheduled for 3 o'clock Thursday
afternoon for Mrs. Myrtle Bivens, 46, who died unexpectedly
Tuesday afternoon in Swisher County Hospital. Although she
was hospitalized Sunday for what was believed to be a minor
ailment, her condition apparently did not become serious
until a short time before her death. Mrs. Bivens was
born Sept. 22, 1905 in Floyd County. She attended West Texas
State College where she met and married DELBERT BIVENS in
1923. They had lived on a ranch near Tulia most of their
married life.
Active in charitable and social work, Mrs. Bivens had been
affiliated with both the county and state Red Cross and Child
Welfare organizations. During the depression of the 1930's she
assisted with the NYA program in Tulia. For many years she took
an active part in school activities. She was a member of the
First Baptist Church where final rites will be held. Rev. W.
Neil Record, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill
Cemetery under direction of Wallace Funeral Home.
Survivors, besides her husband, include a daughter, Mrs. Frank
Henry Cullum of Tulia, her mother, Mrs. Bertie Yates of
Portales, NM; a brother Elbert Muncey, also of Portales, and two
grandchildren, Jimmy Ray and Debra Jean Cullum. The

Boston, Loulie J. |
Funeral services for Mrs. J. J. Boston, 78, were held Sunday
afternoon at the Tulia Methodist Church. Rev. J. B. Thompson
pastor officiating, assisted by Rev. W. Neil Record, pastor
of the Tulia Baptist Church. Mrs. Boston,
pioneer resident of this area, died Thursday night at the
home of a daughter, Mrs. Bill Scheihagen at Bryan. She had
been in ill health for about 6 months. Burial was in
Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wallace Funeral
Home. Mrs. Boston was the widow of J. J. BOSTON, Tulia
farmer and rancher, who died here in 1934. They had lived in
this vicinity since 1906. Surviving children, besides Mrs. Scheihagen, are Mrs. Howard
Blackburn of Amarillo, Van B. Boston, Stratford; W. W. Boston,
Tulia; Woodie Boston, Kress; Jay Boston and Walker Boston,
Hereford; Mrs. John Rice, Kahlolus, WA; Jody Boston, Aztec, NM;
Mrs. W. E. Miller, Joplin, MO; Mrs. John Kenneyhurtz, Kansas
City, and Mrs. Glen F. Davis, Alpine. She also leaves 27
grandchildren, nine great‑grandchildren, two sisters and a

Boyd, William Poplin |
The remains of William Poplin Boyd, early day Tulia school
teacher buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in 1901, were disinterred
last Thursday by Wallace Funeral Home and shipped to Austin for
re‑burial. A daughter of Mr. Boyd recently died and was
buried in Austin. The re‑burial was at the request of his

Boylan, Lillian Clairendia Haile |
Funeral services for Mrs. Lillian C. Boylan, 29, were conducted
Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Russell
Pogue, pastor of the Kress Baptist Church officiating. She died
Nov. 30 at her home in Santa Fe, NM.
Lillian
Clairendia Haile was born Nov. 9, 1921 in Red Hill community.
She received her education in Tulia public schools. She united
with the Tulia Baptist Church in 1931.
On August 5, 1937 she was married to MOSCO M. BOYLAN at Garita,
NM. The family moved to Santa Fe two years ago having lived in
Tulia, Bisbee, AZ and Galexico, CA.
Survivors include her husband, a son Mike Edwin, 10, two
daughters, Shirley Ann, 5, and Judy Louise, 3; her parents Mr.
and Mrs. Aaron B. Haile, and three brothers, Ralph, Charlie, and
Aaron B. Jr.
Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery under the direction of Wallace
Funeral Home.

Braddock, S. L. |
Funeral services for S. L. Braddock, 67 year old Nazareth
pioneer, are scheduled for 10:30 o'clock a.m. Thursday at Holy
Family Church at Nazareth. Rev. Peter Morsch is to officiate.
Burial will be in Nazareth under direction of Wallace Funeral
Home. Mr. Braddock was born Dec. 9, 1883, in Covington,
KY. He was married to MISS CATHERINE MARGARET ACKER in 1902.
They moved to the Nazareth community in 1907. Survivors
include his wife, four sons, Hubert of Snyder, Rudolph, Vincent,
and Charles, all of Nazareth, three daughters, Miss Christen
Braddock of Philadelphia, PA, Mrs. Lucille Schacher, Nazareth,
and Mrs. Ruth Payne, Idaho Falls, Idaho, one brother Philip
Braddock of El Paso, 28 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Burrough, Thomas Brister |
Thomas Brister Burrough died July 24 in a Tahoka hospital. The
68 year old man is survived by his wife, four daughters, one of
which is Mrs. Vera Bell Palmer of Tulia, and a host of other
relatives. Services were held at the First Baptist Church,

Sadler, Mrs. E. E. |
Mrs. E. E. Sadler,
mother of E. C. Sadler, Vigo Park, died Thursday in an Abilene
hospital. Funeral services
were held Friday afternoon in the Laughter North Chapel,
Abilene. Mrs. Sadler was 90
years old, and had resided in Abilene for 60 years. Besides the son she was survived by two
daughters, both of Abilene, 8 grandchildren, and 14 great
grandchildren. Attending the
funeral from Tulia, other than Mr. Sadler, were G. L. Sadler,
Bayard Sadler, and Mrs. Ed Crawford. The Tulia Herald,

Schooler, Charles Thomas Jr. |
Charles Thomas
Schooler, Jr., infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Schooler of
Tulia, was laid to rest in God's care on Friday of this past
week. He was received into the Kingdom of God's grace by the
washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost on
Wednesday, November 7, the day prior to which the Lord called
him to his heavenly home. Rev. Erich Knippa, pastor of Christ
Lutheran Church, officiated at the worship services. Christians
awaiting reunion with little Charles are: Mr. and Mrs. Charles
T. Schooler, the parents and his sister, Philomena Marie
Schooler, Mrs. Philomena Schooler and Mrs. Dora Lee, his
grandmothers; uncles and aunts, relatives and friends.

Seay, Mrs. Dewey |
Funeral services
for Mrs. Flora Belle Seay, 53, were held Sat afternoon at the
First Baptist Church. Rev. W. Neil Record, pastor, officiated. Mrs. Seay died Thursday afternoon in
Swisher County Hospital. She had been in failing health for
several months and had undergone surgery the preceding Tuesday. Mrs. Seay was born
Nov. 7, 1897 in Coryell county. Her mother preceded her in death
in 1909. She moved with her father, Ollie Abraham, to Swisher
county in 1915. She was married to Dewey Seay in 1918. Mrs. Seay was an
organizer of the Tulia Garden Club in which she was active and
last year served as president of the 1934 Study Club. She was a
member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include
her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Roy Bass of Lubbock, Mrs. A.
P. Shugart, Jr. of Amarillo, and Mrs. Bill Price of Lovington,
N. M.; and a sister, Mrs. D. L. Ward of Albuquerque, N. M. and
five grandchildren. Pallbearers were
Lennis Hutto, O. Huxford, J. Lee Griffith, Jeff Musick, Rex
Rodgers and Lewis Redmon. Burial was in Rose
Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wallace Funeral Home.

Strange, George L. |
Final rites for
George Leaverett Strange, 66 years old, retired farmer, were
held Friday afternoon at Amarillo Central Church of Christ. Hoyt
H. Houchen, minister, officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill
cemetery, Tulia. Mr. Strange, former Tulia resident, died
Thursday morning in St. Anthony's hospital following a brief
illness. He had lived in Amarillo for three years. He was a
member of the Central Church of Christ of Amarillo.
Survivors include his wife, a son James A. Strange Amarillo; a
daughter, Mrs. A. P. Williams, Van Horn; a sister, Mrs. H. B.
Pyeatt, Tulia; and two grandchildren, Judy and Jennifer Strange
of Amarillo.
He
resided at 2901 Washington St., Amarillo. The Tulia

Wahrer, George F. |
Graveside services for George F. Wahrer, 83, longtime
resident of the Panhandle, were held Monday afternoon in the
Happy Cemetery. Rev. A. L. Shaw, pastor of the First
Baptist Church, officiated. Burial was under the direction
of Wallace Funeral Home. The body of Mr. Wahrer was found Sunday
morning in his home by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Helwig. Death was
attributed to natural causes, probably occurring Friday.
It had been the custom of Mr. and Mrs. Helwig to take Mr. Wahrer
a pie on Sunday. They found his body in bed. Mr.
Wahrer came to Happy in 1906, apparently from Wyanconda,
Missouri. After farming for a number of years, he moved

Willis, Sam Eli |
Funeral services
for Samuel Eli Willis, 77, were conducted Friday morning in
Borger Calvary Baptist church. Rev. Jeff Moore, pastor,
officiated. Graveside services were held Friday at Rose Hill
cemetery, Tulia. Pallbearers were
Marion Johnston, Marshall Johnston, Pete Estep, James Ariola,
Oliver Looney, all of Tulia and Jack Ariola of Borger. Mr. Willis died
Wednesday in a Borger hospital after a brief illness. He had
lived in Borger three years. He moved there from Tulia. He was a
retired farmer and longtime resident of Swisher county. He was
born in Winston County, Alabama. Survivors are his
wife, four daughters, Mrs. Frank Gann, Tulia; Mrs. Ruby Turner,
San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Hershel Pollard, Norwalk, Calif Mrs. J.
D. Hall, Borger; four sons, Herman of Amarillo, Aubrey and Alve
of Borger, and Milton of Hobbs, NM and one brother, Rube Willis
of Broken Bow, Okla. The Tulia Herald, 16 August

Wood, Walter Preston |
A Plainview man was killed early
Wednesday morning when the 1948 Plymouth which he was driving struck the
banister of a bridge one quarter mile south of Tulia on Highway 87. He was
Walter Preston Wood, 35, representative of American National Life Ins. Co. Wallace Funeral Home attendants
who answered the call about 2:30 a.m. said his car, traveling south, struck the
east banister of the bridge. They expressed the belief that Wood, traveling
alone, had gone to sleep. The dead man is survived by his wife and four
children. The body is at Wood Funeral Home, Plainview. The Tulia

Woodward, Mrs. L. M. |
Funeral services for Mrs. L. M.
Woodward, 90, were conducted Saturday afternoon at the First Methodist Church.
Rev. Aubrey Lee of Plainview conducted the service. Burial was in Rose Hill
Cemetery under the direction of Wallace Funeral Home. Mrs. Woodward died Thursday in
Wetumka, Okla. She was born in Kansas and moved with her husband to Tulia about
1918. Her husband farmed until his retirement and died in 1939. They had
celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary a short time before. Mrs. Woodward was an organizer and
teacher of the Blue Bird Sunday School class of the Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, Asa Woodward of Okla.
