| Brooks, Examander |
Funeral services for E. Brooks, 84, pioneer Swisher County
resident were held at Tulia Friday, with Rev. A. C. Huff pastor
of the Baptist church in charge. Interment was made in Rose Hill
Cemetery under direction of Ramsey and Sons Funeral Home.
Mr. Brooks was born Sept. 30, 1853 in Hot Springs County, AR,
but came to Texas in his youth, where for 18 months he served as
a member of the Texas Ranger force. He was married to
SARAH A. PALMER, March 20, 1876 in Clay County, TX. In 1897 they
moved to Swisher County and to Tulia in 1908 where the family
has resided since. For many Mr. Brooks was a cattleman of
considerable prominence and success. Later he engaged in the
real estate business in Tulia and continued in this line as long
as his health would permit it. Survivors include the
widow, five daughters: Mrs. Leona Wright, Coleman; Mrs. W. D.
Sullins, Tulia; Mrs W. A Carver, Vigo Park; Mrs. Maynard Webb,
Canyon; Mrs. W. R Crow, Happy; three sons, Earl Brooks, Rifle,
Colorado; Ex Brooks, Portales, NM; and M. L. Brooks also of
Portales, NM.

| Brooks, Sarah A. Palmer |
Mrs. Examander Brooks, 74, died at her home in Tulia last
Sunday following a lingering illness. She had not been in
the best of health since the death of her husband several
months ago. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A.
C. Huff, at the First Baptist Church in Tulia, Monday
afternoon at 2:30.
Interment was made in the local cemetery beside the grave of her
husband by Ramsey and Sons Undertaking Home. Mrs. Brooks was the
mother of Mrs. W. R Crow of Happy. The Happy

| Bruening, William |
William Bruening, 51, well known farmer living seven miles west
of Happy, died from a heart attack here Wednesday afternoon at
3:45 at the Farmer's Produce Co. Mr. Bruening, who had
been helping Pete Szydloski in the harvest did not work
Wednesday and complained of having a hurting in his chest and
shoulders. He had been ill for several days. The body was
taken to Ramsey Funeral Home in Tulia, and will be sent to
Nebraska for burial. The only near relative of the
deceased living in this section is a brother, Louie Bruening of
Nazareth and a nephew, Adolph Schultz of Kaffir. William
Bruening had made Happy his home for five years. He resided at
Kaffir for two years before moving west of town. He did not have
a family. He came to Happy from Nebraska. The Happy

| Schaeffer, Miss Sadie |
Funeral services
for Miss Sadie Schaeffer were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday June 23
at Wayside cemetery with Mr. Stephen Shorten, Clovis, N. M. and
Miss Eva Thompson of Amarillo in charge. Miss Sadie Bessie
Schaeffer was born May 28, 1899 near Piper, Ill. She moved to
Randall County with her parents 27 years ago, and to Happy in
1927. She had been in failing health for some time. Those surviving
her are: her mother, Mrs. Lizzie Schaeffer, four brothers,
George and Emil Schaeffer of Happy; Louis and Al Schaeffer of
Amarillo; two sisters, Mesdames W. E. Moore and Robert Bryan of
Happy, seven nieces and eight nephews, and one great nephew. Emil Schaeffer, a
cousin from Newton, Kansas, was here for the rites. Griggs‑Thompson of Canyon was in charge of

| Spear, Henry D. |
Henry D.
Spear, 54, of Hazel Bluff, Indiana, a brother of Charles
Spear of this city, died at the Vermillion county hospital
at Clinton, Ind. Thursday morning, Nov. 11 at 10:20 a few
minutes after he was brought there suffering from abdominal
injuries. The deceased is
survived by his wife, Ethel, one daughter, Mrs. Martha
Lautenslager of Chicago; his father, William H. Spear, Kress;
three brothers, Cecil of Tulia; Charles of Happy and Herman of
Lake View; also two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Spear of Kress and
Mrs. Clara Wright of Vigo Park. Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Spear, William H. Spear, Miss Gertrude Spear and Mrs.
Clara Wright left Happy Friday afternoon for Indiana to attend
the funeral.
The deceased had been a resident of Indiana all his life.

| Warwick, Mrs. Mattie J. |
Mrs. Mattie J. Warwick, mother of Clyde W. Warwick, editor
and publisher of the Canyon News, died Sunday morning at
her home in Montezuma, Iowa. Mr. Warwick left Sunday
afternoon to attend the funeral services, which were held
Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Warwick was 86 and had spent
virtually all her life in Iowa. She had frequently visited
her son in Canyon since he settled here twenty-six year ago.

| Watson, Mrs. C. F. |
Funeral services for Mrs. C. F. Watson, 50, of Wayside, who
died in Amarillo on August 30 were held at the Wayside Church
Tuesday afternoon with Rev. J. W. Partin, pastor of the Happy
Baptist Church in charge. The deceased had been a member
of the Baptist Church since childhood. She is survived by
her husband, C. F. Watson and three children, Guy Watson of
Wayside, Mrs. T. A. Brooks of Frier, Texas, and Mrs. George
Thompson of Amarillo. Interment was in Wayside Cemetery
under the direction of Griggs-Thompson Funeral Directors of

| Wesley, Ronald Gene |
Ronald Gene Wesley, nineteen month old son of Mr. and Mr.
Alvin Wesley, was drowned Saturday three miles east of Happy.
Funeral services were held at 3:30 Sunday afternoon at the
Wayside Church with Rev. Charles Odom of Plainview in charge.
Interment was in the Wayside Cemetery under the direction of
Griggs-Thompson Funeral Directors of Canyon. Besides the
parents, the baby is survived by five brothers, Charles, Wayne,
Delbert, Kenton and Darren Wesley, and two sisters, Lola Wesley
and Mrs. Orene Rogers. The child is a grandson of Mr. and
Mrs. C. L. Gatten of this city. The Happy Herald, 9
