Downloading a
family history collection from the internet or copying papers from a favorite
aunt, who wrote out the familys history CAN provide interesting family
history and names; however, without proof documentation, these sources have
NO VALUE because they DO NOT provide proof of such things as births,
marriages, deaths, military service, pensions, wills or other official
information, but it is a place to start

Documentation
considered as proof documentation include:
United States Census, copies of family Bibles, which MUST include
the front page with the name and date of the publisher to be valid, pension
applications, Military Records from the National Archives, photos of tombstones
with dates, true copies of Birth Certificates, Marriage Licenses, Death
Certificates, Wills or legal agreements mentioning the names and relationships
connecting one generation to another

Only these
official proof documents are accepted by the Society of the War of 1812.
Information copied from Ancestary.com, Familysearch.com, Fold3, Find-a-Grave or
the internet listing the documentation is not acceptable unless a copy of the
actual document is available with the title page, copyright and page number(s)
along with the information

If you are using the applications electronic file, the final
application needs to be printed out on archival paper
printed on front and back with original signatures

Each generation
listed on the application MUST be separated by a sheet of paper
SHOWING the Generation NUMBER along with proof documentation listed
in order to readily distinguish the documentation relationship for each
Generation; i.e., Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3, and so forth

Provide only
ONE set of proof documents to support your application

Provide TWO
sets of your application with original signatures and an additional copy of your
ancestors war record(s)

Provide TWO
copies of any war record verification

Include a check
in the amount of $60.00 (or for Life Membership $500.00) made out to GSW 1812 TX. Mail application,
proof documentation and check to the GSW 1812 in the State of Texas Registrar
