Last Resting Place of Sarah Emma Edmonds

It has been a cherished purpose of the George B. McClellan post G. A. R. ,(Grand Army of the Republic), of Houston to remove the remains of their comrade, Mrs. Seelye, who was buried at a lonley spot by the seaside near LaPorte about three years ago, to their burial lot in the German Cemetery, (now known as Washington Cemetery), where it could be cared for and decorated on Memorial days. The preceding paragraph was the opening paragraph of an article titled, "She Rests In Houston", that ran in the Sunday Morning edition of the Houston Daily Post on June 2, 1901. After receiving permission from the family of Sarah Emma Edmonds (Mrs. Linus H. Seelye), the George B. McClellan post of the GAR moved Emma's body from to LaPorte to Houston on Memberial Day, 1901. ["She Rests in Houston", Sunday, June 2, 1901, Houston Daily Post, Sunday Morning Edition, Houston, Texas].

Mrs. S. Emma Edmonds Seelye is buried in the plot owned by the George B. McClellan Post of the Grand Army of the Republic that is located in plot #26, Section G, [The plot is to the right of the Osler gravestone and just before you come to Osler, you will see a large Oak tree as shown in the photos below.], of Washington Cemetery, that is managed by Glenwood Cemetery in Houston, Texas. Emma has a Civil War style military gravestone that reads, Emma E. Seely-Army Nurse. The other veterans who were members of the George B. McClennan GAR Post that are buried in the same plot are: G. W. Gage, John Froehlich, S. (Stephan) K. Feeks, E. P. Paine, Judge J. J. Reagan, Ben Guire/Dwyer, Henry Joseph Mostow/Marston, William M. Eastland, and Abram O. Bennett.
