Western Texas College

Western Texas College in Snyder is a public coeducational community college. It enrolled its first students in the fall 1971 and by the fall 1972 had fifty faculty members. The enrollment in fall 1974 was 1,034; Robert L. Clinton served as president. The campus buildings open into a common courtyard area that has been compared to a shopping center. The campus houses the Scurry County Museum and sponsors the Senior Citizens Center for the county. In 1992 there were fifty-two members of the faculty. Harry L. Krenek was president. The college provides offerings designed to aid in preprofessional and general study that will transfer to a senior college, various occupational programs, adult continuing education, community service, counseling and guidance, and various student services. It has accreditations and memberships with the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board;qv the American Association of Community and Junior Colleges; the Texas Junior College Association; the Southern Association of Community, Junior, and Technical Colleges; the Association of Texas Colleges and Universities; and the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers. Western Texas College offers an A.A. and an A.A.S. degree.
