SNYDER DAILY NEWS http://www.snyderdailynews.com/Stories/index.htm Blake Walker 1913-2000 Horace Blake Walker, a longtime Scurry County resident, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Funeral service for Mr. Walker, 86, is set for 4 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church. The Revs. Miller Robinson and Odell Walker will officiate. Burial will follow in the Snyder Cemetery. Born Oct. 22, 1913 in Ellis County, he married Nell Tamplin on Sept. 5, 1936 in Scurry County. A resident of Scurry County since 1917, he worked as a pumper for Unocal for 35 years. A member of the Masonic Lodge 706, Scottish Rite and past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star 450, Mr. Walker was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was past president of Scurry County Sheriff’s Posse and a member of American Quarter Horse Association. Mr. Walker had also served on the Scurry County School Board. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheril Diane Walker in 1950. Survivors include his wife, Nell Walker of Snyder; a son and daughter-in-law, H.B. and Elaine Walker Jr. of Midland; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Billy Jack Wilson of Snyder; two sisters, Iva Lee Hillis of Sweetwater and Maggie Lloyd of San Angelo; two granddaughters, Carrie and Kim Walker of Midland; and a grandson and his wife, Bill and Melissa Wilson of Lubbock.
