SNYDER DAILY NEWS http://www.snyderdailynews.com/Stories/index.htm Wesley Minton 1938-2000 ODESSA -- Wesley Newman Minton, Snyder native, died Sunday, Oct. 7 at his home. Funeral service for Mr. Minton, 62, was held Tuesday in Odessa Christian Faith Center with Don Caywood officiating. Burial followed in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Mr. Minton was born on March 3, 1938 in Snyder. He attended Rotan High School where he was active in sports. He attended Rice University on an athletic scholarship and then returned to San Angelo College where he played football and baseball. He married Lavern Tennis of San Angelo on Feb. 19, 1957 in Paint Rock. Mr. Minton worked for pipelines and the railroad in Sierra Blanca, Slaton, Odessa and Midland. He was a leader in many civic affairs and children’s activities. Involved in the oil industry for several years, he was employed with Coastal Management in Penwell. He was a member of Odessa Christian Faith Center. His parents, Lester and Naoma Minton, and a sister, Gayle Minton, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Laverne Minton of Odessa; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Julie Worster of Sanderson, Resa and Mark Tyree of Fort Stockton and Heidi and Rory Gesch of Spur; and six grandchildren.
