SNYDER DAILY NEWS http://www.snyderdailynews.com/2004february16/obit.htm Gene Hays 1924-2004 POST -- John Hays, a former resident of Snyder, died Friday, Feb. 13, in Golden Plains Care Center. Funeral service for Mr. Hays, 80, is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Calvary Baptist Church in Post with the Rev. Les Atkins, pastor, officiating. Military graveside rites will follow in the Terrace Cemetery under the direction of Justice-Mason Funeral Home. Born Jan. 13, 1924, he attended Post schools and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He married Deloris LaVerne Capps on March 17, 1956 in Carlsbad, N.M. She died March 6, 1993. He also was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mattie Hays; and two sons, Marc and Rodney Hays. Mr. Hays worked for his dad at the Corner Grocery, owned and operated the Long Branch, Genez Steak House and later worked for RJD Management. He then worked for Redman Redi-Mix for several years. A longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church, he was a member of the VFW in Lubbock. Survivors include four sons, Randell, Steve and Jim Hays, all of Lubbock, and Stephen Hays of Brownwood; two daughters, Joni Hays of Tahoka and Anita Nett of Berthold, N.D.; six brothers, Bill and Jackie Hays of Lubbock, Jerry and Pete Hays of Post and Herbie and Donnie Hays of Austin; three sisters, Liberty Anthony, Sis Gilmore and Reba Propst, all of Post; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
