Haskins, longtime Snyder resident, died Monday, Oct. 30, in Granny Mom Elders Care Center in El Paso following a brief illness. Graveside service for Mr. Haskins, 96, is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Necessity Cemetery, located southeast of Breckenridge. Bill Looney, associate minister of the 37th Street Church of Christ, will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home. Born Nov. 22, 1903 in Purmela, Tex., he was reared in Coryell County and married Estelle Amanda McIntosh on Dec. 25, 1926 in Eastland. She died Feb. 22, 1984. Mr. Haskins moved to Snyder from Andrews in 1957 as a mechanic for Humble Oil which later became Exxon. He retired from Exxon after 40 years. He also had worked for Humble in Rising Star. He also was a former resident of Breckenridge and owned a cabin on Lake Hubbard. He moved to El Paso in 1998 to be near his daughter. A member of the 37th Street Church of Christ, Mr. Haskins spent his retirement years in a variety of activities he learned from his mother, including cooking and quilting. He raised a garden each year and did his own canning. He also, from pecan trees in his yard, made pies which were a favorite for those attending church pot-luck dinners. Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Arnold Haskins of San Angelo and B.W. and Mary Haskins of Midland; a daughter and son-in-law, Lavoyne and Bill Newman of El Paso; a sister, Jewell Langford of Breckenridge; a brother, Raymond Haskins of Overton; four grandchildren, Kevin Newman of El Paso, Kimberly Newman of San Antonio, Cynthia Ann Haskins of Rock Springs, Wyo., and Connie Sue Jordan of Monahans; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bell-Cypert-Seale. Friends are contributing to the Scurry County Senior Center, 2603 Ave. M, or to a hospice of your choice
