SNYDER DAILY NEWS http://www.snyderdailynews.com/Stories/index.htm Billy Haney 1924-2000 MENARD – Billy Joe Haney, Menard County sheriff for 24 years, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, in San Antonio. Funeral service for Mr. Haney, 76, is set for 3 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Suzanne Brantley and Gordon Johnson, past executive director of the Sheriffs Association of Texas, will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. Born July 31, 1924 in Menard, he married Mary Minton on June 15, 1946 in Snyder. He was an U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Haney served as president of the Sheriffs’ Association of Texas from 1980-81 and was Menard’s citizen of the year in 1994. After retiring from law enforcement, he ranched and hauled cattle for area ranchers. Survivors include his wife, Mary Haney of Menard; two daughters, Rayna Haney of Menard and Wendy Wood of Vancouver, Wash.; and three grandchildren
