School Photo & Williams Family History

school photo

I can only identify a few people in the school photo. If you want to use it, and would like me to identify those few people,I will do so for you.

My name is Lauin Sanders. My mother and father were married in Scurry County on the 24th of October, 1914. I can send a wedding photo if you would like one.

My grandfathers and grandmothers (both sides of the family)were in Scurry County from about 1905 to about 1918. My grandfather, George Worth Williams, and my grandmother, Ella A. "Huie" Williams, are buried in Dunn Cemetery. I just learned that my Aunt Clara's first, and only child, is buried next to his grandparents. All I know about him is that his name was Jackie Sawyer, born about 1919 and died about 1926. My cousin just told me he may have died in Arizona and his body returned to Dunn Cemetery to be buried next to his grandmother.

I am the youngest of my family, the first born was Thurman William Sanders, 26 Aug. 1915 to 17 Nov. 1935 and the second born was Ellamote Alzina "Sanders" Shultz, born 17 Dec. 1916 to 2 March 1994. Both were bornin Scurry County. I have many photos of them, including a photo of them on the back of a mule taken in Scurry about 1917.

In addition, I have photos of Onie Sanders and Lola Belle Patterson. They were married in Scurry 14 Nov 1917. I do not have, but am looking for photos of Riley Eugene Sanders and Kate Berry. I do not know their wedding date, it will be in the county courthouse records in Snyder.

Also buried in Dunn Cemetery are my uncle, Clyde Arthur Williams, and my aunt, Lela Mae "Richardson" Williams. Lela's mother was a Dunn. I have no photos of this family at this time.

I am 71 years old and cannot walk very far. The last time I was at the Dunn Cemetery it was windy and cold. I was only able to search a small part. At the Snyder Library they had nothing of help in genealogy. At the county courthouse they will not let us look at the records of marriages, etc. Please put the cemeteries on line (under the Tombstone Project) and the marriage records, death records, etc.

Thank You for taking the time to read my letter. The last time we were in Snyder we had lunch at the senior center. They are great bunch of people.

Sincerely,

Lauin Sanders
