Jonas Hail Cemetery

Printed with permission of the San Augustine Public Library Board of Directors.  Originally contributed by Mrs. McXie Whitton Martin.

The exact location of this cemetery is unknown.  According to family history, some members of the Hail families were buried in a family cemetery somewhere near the Hail home site located in the vicinity of the "Goodlaw School" where the first Presbyterian Church was organized in 1838.  This would be out Hwy 21 west in the region of Spur 85.  There is a Historical Marker for the Presbyterian Church was located.    Jonas Hail and his wife both died in San Augustine County.  Their daughter Amanda is listed on the 1860 Mortality Schedule and is surmised to be buried by her parents.  It is not know how many people are buried in this cemetery.

Mrs. Winnie Nicholson provided information that Mary Monroe McIver, widow of Little John McIver was buried here.
