Anton and Theresa SchraderAnton Conrade and Theresa Jaresh Schrader (see photo) deeded 17 acres of their land to the Catholic Church in String Prairie on August 01, 1878.

Johann and Elizabeth (nee Widemeyer) Schrader immigrated on December 03, 1849 and settled in Fayette County.

Their son Anton Conrade Schrader enlisted in the Confederate Army on October 11, 1861. A great deal of information and description about situations during the American Civil War is provided by Mr. Hartmann.

Anton Conrade married Theresa (nee Jaresh), Nov. 15, 1869. In 1874, Anton, his wife, children and mother, Elizabeth, moved to Bastrop County. Anton & Theresa bought land and deeded 17 acres to the Catholic Church in String Prairie on August 01, 1878. Elizabeth died in 1880 and is buried in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery, String Prairie. Anton died on February 07, 1905 and is buried there, too.

In 1876, Walnut Creek (Rockne) and String Prairie (Meuth Hill) became separate parishes. The people of Meuth Hill continued to hold services in their little chapel while looking for a suitable location for a new church. On August 1, 1878, Anton & Theresa Schrader deeded 17 acres of land lying on Brushy Fork of Sandy Creek. When the church was completed in the fall of 1878, the furnishings from the Meuth Hill Chapel, including the bell, were brought to the new Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. Subsequently a pastoral residence was built and the pastor resided at String Prairie. The community at Walnut Creek was a mission church, until the turn of the century. Taken from the RHA Website Early History of Rockne, Texas.

The family history includes Anton’s son, Rudolf and his family.

This is a very brief view of what is included in Mr. Hartmann’s biographies. Please contact the editor for more information.
