Patsy Josephine Ott

November 28, 1939 - February 27, 2004
by Erlene Goertz

It is difficult to know where to begin or to summarize what this good and special woman’s faith contributed to her community, church, workplace and Bastrop County Organizations. She continually volunteered her talents with a good sense of humor and a pleasant smile.

Patsy was a devoted employee and officer of First State Bank since 1994 and supervisor, Wanda Rucker called her their “Good will Ambassador.” Patsy enjoyed meeting people and helping in any way she could. Her co-workers at the bank, young and old, relied not only on her business acumen but also on her ability to listen, as a friend, offering good judgment and helpful advice. Patsy seemed to sense when someone needed encouragement and reassurance. Her motto was, “Always have a kind word for everyone and your day will be much brighter.” Her theory was that there is no problem so big that it cannot be overcome. She also believed that if you “put God first, most of the problems will go away.”

an active member of Sacred Heart Parish Rockne, Patsy was a member of the St. Anne Society and helped with the Bazaars and Spring Festivals. She taught CCE Religion Class for many years working with the students and their parents as well, helping to improve both their spiritual and social lives. She broadened her church involvement by being a member and working with the Bastrop Ladies of Charity.

Her volunteerism extended to energetic work with the Rockne Home Demonstration Club and their yearly Homemaking Fairs and as a leader for the Rockne 4-H Club for 10 years. In both organizations, she was active in the county and district as well. She also served as the Rockne and Bastrop County Family Relations Chairman for many years.

Patsy was a member and generous supporter of the Rockne WOW and WOM’s, a local organization dedicated to helping others.

In her countless good works, Patsy touched the lives of many and left each of us a good example to follow. She never complained but said, “We will take one day at a time.” She taught me a lesson in patience and trust in the Lord. Patsy will be in our hearts forever.
