Meuth Visitors from Missouri

The Rockne Meuths and Missouri Meuths came together for a second reunion. In August of 2008, nine Meuths from Rockne traveled to Millwood, Missouri and this year, Meuths from Missouri came to Rockne for the Peter Meuth Reunion. Jane Quade, a fifth generation descendant of John Meuth, and her husband, Lloy, from Silex, Missouri were greeted and hosted by Marian and Charlie Nelson, Gloria and Clyde Hoffman, Ovon Goertz and siblings. They spent several days in the Rockne area and visited much of Texas before returning home.

Between 1846 and 1850, eight Meuth brothers and a sister immigrated to Texas; seven settled at Meuth Hill in Bastrop County. The youngest, Johan John Meuth left Texas and wasn’t heard of again until 2008.

What happened to the youngest sibling? John disappeared and no one knew what happened to him until a fifth generation Meuth, Diane Fuerst, contacted the Rockne Historical Association Website. John, the youngest son of Johan and Sophia Wagoner Meuth left Würges, Germany with other family members and visited his brothers Andreas and Frank who had established a home at Meuth Hill in 1846. After 150 years, the story of the missing brother’s where-a-bouts unfolded. John settled in Missouri, married twice, and fathered 9 children. From those 9 children there are more than 900 documented descendants in Missouri. Ivo Meuth, 96, is the oldest living great-grandson of John Meuth. Freda Meuth Kadura, 97, is the oldest living great-granddaughter of John’s brother, Peter.
