Rockne, Texas TodayRockne, Texas is a small community about half way between Bastrop and Lockhart just off Highway 20 on FM 535. One cannot miss the tall steeple of Sacred Heart Catholic Church; the heart of the community. The parish hall is reserved well in advance for civic and community activities as well as wedding celebrations. Twice a year, the church holds festivals, which draw former natives of Rockne as well as a crowd from neighboring communities.Rockne began as a farming community however today ranchers limit their crops to feed for animals, big gardens and orchards. Women still preserve their produce in mason jars, knead their own bread and vie for ribbons at the County Homemakers Fair held in Rockne. Rockne is experiencing steady growth as people settle in the rural area and commute the 30 � 40 miles to Austin. Many retired people come back "home" and enjoy "roots" and the leisurely paced life. The local community establishments and VFW retain the memory and flavor of simpler times, where domino players and local ranchers gather. Civic and service organizations provide a variety of activities and are always well supported by the community. There are domino tournaments, chili cook-offs, auctions, baseball games, Halloween fun, Easter egg hunts, Senior and Christmas Parties. Events that draw large crowds each year include:
