1945 Bobcat
Lettermen
Are Named

Refugio High Lettermen for the 1945 season were named at the annual football banquet held Tuesday evening in the cafeteria.

Lettermen this year are Jack Hood, captain, Billy Ray Chappell, co-captain, Dudley Skeen, Daily Brown, Laine Fagan, Wayne Wilpitz, Staton Beardsley, Alfred Duckett, Darrell Mahan, Arthur Parenden (??), James Henry and Jackie Sportsman.

Entire program, menu and decorations revolved around the game, with Jack Hood, captain, acting as master of ceremonies and extending welcome, "The Kickoff."  Lois Williams responded, "The Run-Back," and a quartet composed of Ann Walker, Barbara Simpson, Joan McBride and Shirley Ficklin, went into a musical huddle.

A.R. Pointer, superintendent, made the main talk of the evening, "The Referee's Decision," and awarded gold footballs presented by the fans after which R.H. Renfro, principal, played a piano selection, "Try For Extra Point."  The coach, Loyd Dyer (??), then announced his list of lettermen, and the entire group joined to sing, "The Closing Gun."

Homemaking girls prepared and served the banquet at the U-shaped table centered with orange tapers in black holders, the school colors,... in mint cups, helmet shaped menus, and place cards embossed with Jersey letters for each player and his girl.  The speakers' table held a miniature football field, and gold chrysanthemums filled...baskets around the room, the gift of a fan.

Afterwards the guests danced in the gymnasium, hung down the center with orange and gold streamers.  The outer edges of the room were embellished with pennants and other streamers of schools played during the football season, and at one end a large poster was etched with a football and the letters, "1945," surrounded by pennants of opposing teams.
