"Martin O'Connor opened up extensive farming districts on his ranch in the north end of the county,...When the Austwell branch of the St. L.B. & M. came through in 1913, Martin O'Connor established the town of Maudlowe (named for his wife) and built a large store, gin, and hotel.  Peter Marberry became the general manager of this phase of O'Connor's operations."
