August 1, 1913
Mr E M Irwin of the Woosley community died Tuesday afternoon at this home after
a short illness. We know that all
things work together for good to those that love God. May the under Shepherd
who has taken Mr Irwin with him to
live in Glory, tenderly guard the remainder of the family until all find shelter
in the Heavenly fold.

Mr. and Mrs. E.D. Hughey’s 7-month-old baby died last Sunday at their
home a mile north of Emory, after a few days illness with diphtheria, and its
remains were interred in the Woosley Cemetery Monday. The Leader offers sincere
sympathy and condolence to the sadly bereaved parents.

Tribute of Respect in Memory of Mrs. Mollie Hughey
Mrs. Mollie Hughey, our companion, mother and aunt, who after several weeks' illness surrendered her life to her Heavenly Father, who called her home to rest. She bore her suffering with great patience. As she realized several days before her time had come, she did not murmur at the summons of Providence, of the God of her salvation, whom she had learned to trust, as the only one who can help in the time of need. Mollie, as she was known among friends and loved ones, was one of sincere purpose to do whatsoever her hands to do in ministering to the needy who came into her little realm. She was satisfied with doing her best and leaving the result in God's hand. So she lived a consistent Christian life and a Worthy member of the Woosley Baptist church, which she joined in early life, until her Father's call to come meet the friends and loved ones "just over" in the heavenly land. No more in this like shall we see her. Her genial smile and hearty hand will pass this way no more. Yet we shall love to think of her whose noble human heart bore never a trace of hypocrisy; in whose generous spirit there was neither guile or deceit; whose hands did not tire of good deeds. She was laid to rest in the Woosley cemetery September 1, 1920 (by her infant babe who passed away August 6, 1920) in the presence of a large assembly of relatives and friends, funeral services being conducted by Bro. Dement and Bro. Nickleson, an old friend and acquaintance of the family. She was 28 years of age, was reared in Rains County and was the daughter of Mr. G.W. Luckett, having been married to Mr. Elmer Hughey, June 13, 1909. To them were born four children. She is survived by her husband and three small boys and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her death.---Fannie Mae Jaggers and Leotha Irwin.

Services for mrs. Faye Calloway Cooper, 87, Point, were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday
in Woosley Baptist Church near Point with the Reverends Billy Smith and Royce
Litchfield officiating. Burial was in Lone Star Cemetery under the direction
of LyBrand Funeral Home in Point. Mrs. Cooper died Thursday in a Greenville
hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born March 2, 1904 in Point to Samuuel
and Lula Farris Calloway. She was raised and lived in the Point area all her
life. She attended East Texas State University. She taught in the Woosley school
and later in Point and Emory high schools. She was a member of Woosley Baptist
Church, Ladies Civic Club and was married to Kearby Cooper, who preceded her
in death in 1970. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers
included Cal Qualls, Steve Zareff, Don Swinney, Mickey Cooper, Johnny Jaggers,
Kenneth McDaniels, Neal Alex Harris and Homer Corley.

Graveside services for George L. Havins, 88, were held at the Woosley Cemetery
at 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Clyde Passons officiating. He died Tuesday in
a Euless nursing home.
Born on Jan 23, 1892 in the Flats community, he married the former Mabel Eunice
Vaughn in 1916, who preceded him in death. He was a retired farmer and life-long
resident of the Flats community.
Survivors are a son, G.W. Havins, of Irving; two daughters, Hazel Cunningham
and Fay Colvin, both of Huntsville, AL; a brother, Thomas Havins of Idabel,
OK; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
LyBrand Funeral Home of Point directed the services. Honorary pallbearers were
George Stuart, Jessie Tidwell, Hurst Fenter, Herman Cunningham, and Rolen Carter.

Funeral services for Buddy O. Tatum, 68, of Grand Prairie were held Thursday
at 11 a.m. in the Woosley Baptist Church with Rev. Clyde Passons officiating.
Mr. Tatum died Tuesday morning after a lengthy illness. He was born Nov 9, 1911
in Palo Pinto Co., the son of B.C. and Nora Criswell Tatum.
He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Brown of Grand Prairie and Melody Tatum
of Grand Prairie; two brothers, Buster Tatum of Point and Cecil Tatum of Quinlan;
one sister, Irene Horton of Point and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bonnie Tatum, Gary Tatum, Dean Tatum, Robert Tatum, Harvey
Tatum, and RIckie Grisham.
Burail was in Woosley Cemetery

Services for Phillip Jerome Hughey, 34, of Longview were held at 2 p.m. Friday
in the Emory Baptist Church with Rev. Albert Clark officiating. He was born
Sept 25, 1947 in Kilgore to Aurburn and Kelly Draper Hughey. He died Tuesday.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a Baptist.
Survivors include his father of Elkhart; two brothers Thomas Hughey of Elkhart
and Roy Hughey of Longview; two sisters Linda Laminack of Hallsville and Sherry
Wortham of Elkhart; three nieces and nine nephews.
Pallbearers were H.L. Hughey, G.T. Hughey, Horace Irwin, Jack Hughey, Dwey Cooper,
and Jerry Woods. Burial was in Woosley Cemetery under the direction of Hood
Funeral Home of Emory.

Funeral services were held for James E. Hatley, Jr., 38, at the Laurel Land
Funeral Chapel in Dallas at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb 3, with the Rev. William
E. Bogan officiating. Graveside rites were held at 2:30 at the Woosley Cemetery.
Mr. Hatley was born May 21, 1944 in Greenville to James E. Hatley, Sr. and Susan
M. Hatley.
He was a machinist for Dresser Co. of Dallas. He served in the Army during the
Vietnam crisis;
Survivors include his father, James E. Hatley, Sr., Dallas; two sisters Betty
Bogan, Commerce and Janet Lewis, Quinlan; one brother, Charles A. Hatley, Dallas.
His mother preceded him in death in March 1982

Funeral services were held for Bryan Francis, 77, Saturday Sept 14, 1985, at
Woosley Baptist Church at 10 a.m. with Rev. Clyde Passons officiating. Burial
followed at Woosley Cemetery under the direction of Lybrand Funeral Home of
Wills Point.
He died in Citizens General Hospital in Greenville Thursday, Sept 12. He was
born in Salisaw, Okla., Octo. 11, 1907. He was a farmer and had resided in Point
for the last forty years.
Survivors include his wife; eleven sons - R.T. Strickland of Bosier City, La;
Kenneth Bryan Francis, Marshall, TX; Donald Gene Francis, Hallsville, TX; Otis
Henry Francis, Harleton TX; David Lee Francis, Longview; Roland Tillman Francis,
Marshall; Newman Earl Francis, Marshall; Norris Keith Francis, Gladewater; Kenneth
Wayne Francis, Arlington; James Howard Francis, Point; five daughters - Murl
Robbins, Marshall; Cleo Greer, Hallsville TX: Brenda Nill Tucker, Longview;
Mildred Darlene Thomas, Kemp TX; Shirley Jean Rigdon, Dallas; two brothers -
Floyd Francis, Henderson; Roy Otis Francis, Quinlan; one sister - Mable Shumaker,
Elmira, Oregon; and 44 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Services for Rev. Vernon C. Fenter, 74, of the Woosley community were held at
2 p.m. Monday in the Woosley Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Bay and Rev. Loyd
McKinney officiating.
Mr. Fenter was born Oct 5, 1911 in Rains Co. to Frank and Rena Prince Fenter.
He died Saturday at Green Acres Nursing Home in Emory.
He married Rubye Williams Lunsford on Sept 30, 1934 in Woosley. He was a retired
farmer and minister, having served churches in Hunt, Rains, and Hopkins County
for over twenty years. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife; three brothers - Irwin Fenter and Douglas Fenter,
both of Point, and Leon Fenter of Greenville; four sisters - Janie PEarl Shelton
and Joyce TUrner, both of Point; Audry Chaistain of Little Rock, Ark. and Lawana
Haynes of Quinlan.
Pallbearers were J.W. Ragan, James Ragan, Dan Redding, Jeff Williams. Honorary
pallbearers were Jimmy Shedd, T.L. Wilson, Les Dickens, L.F. WIlson, Clyde Passons
and Roy Prather.
Burial was in the Woosley Cemetery under the direction of Tapp Funeral Home
of Sulphur Springs.
Annie Lou Franklin was born January 3, 1927 to F.M. and Willie Lattimer Kelley. Passed from this life on May 28, 2001. She had the nickname Cupie because she was so small when she was born. Preceded in death by her parents, husband Horace Franklin and siblings Jake, Bo, Jim, Christine and Joe. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Joyce and Ronnie Buffington. Grandchildren Wendy Buffington Harris and Joshaua Buffington. Great-grandchildren Bree’anda, Hunter, and Pressley. She is also survived by her niece (ward) Judy Steele and special friend Harris D. Hass. There are 13 other nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Services were held at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Emory, Texas at 2 PM on May 30, 2001.
