September 6, 2005

Dear Fellow Members,

This summer has passed so very quickly. The difficulties of our lives continue in a steady stream. This fall our beloved country is still in armed conflict. The men and women of our armed forces serve in multiple theaters with no abatement in danger and constantly shifting missions. The current natural disaster is the greatest which we have ever confronted. May we be helpful in these times of personal and group challenge.

Monday, September 12, 2005 the society will meet at 7:00 p.m. in room 2 at the Carrollton Public Library at Hebron & Josey, 4220 N. Josey Lane at Hebron Pkwy.
Carrollton, Texas 75010. On October 10th and November 14th we return to the Josey Ranch Lake branch in the environmental meeting room.

Sue Bucy has found excellent programs. In September Mr. Sam Houston will be coming to us from the Texana Living History Association. In October, Mr. Butler will present a program on the history of Fair Park. Mrs. Sam Houston has promised to spend November 14th telling her side of the story.

The La Reunion 150th anniversary celebration in June was wonderful. Howard and Mary Cox, Marilyn Hicks, Paul Price, Jan, and I met with many people and talked about PCHS. We have a new life member and sold several copies of Elm Fork Settlements.

This years Elm Fork Echoes has been delayed by a number of unforeseen problems. These shall pass and the 2005 issue is headed to the printer soon.

There are vacancies in our officer positions. Please consider becoming a Vice President. Jan and I may have an opportunity to join a Katrina Mission trip.

In these times I am reminded of the lyrics, Its not how much your share is but how much you can share. Its not how much youre given, but what you do with what youve got.

Faithfully yours,

Richard Monroe
